Jobย Summary:ย ย 

Summerย campย atย Campย Bette Perotย runsย inย the months of Juneย and July.ย Theย campย holdsย 210 bedspaces and a thriving equestrian program, situated on approximatelyย 1,300 acresย ofย pineyย woods in East Texas and has been open since 1970. Theย Seniorย Riding Instructorย is responsible forย participatingย as a member of the Equestrian Program team in the operation of the summer Equestrian program as delegated. Theย Seniorย Riding instructorย is responsible forย the safety of campers and fellow staff, daily care of the horses, daily program and badge work and camp duties as assigned.ย This position ensures compliance with all GSNETX, ACA, and state health department guidelines while creating a safe and supportive environment for fostering a love of horses.ย ย ย 

Essential Functions:ย ย ย 

Program engagementย 

  • Provides Equestrian program activities that follow Girl Scout program standards, safety and security guidelines, and activity checkpointsย ย 

  • Prepares and carries out specific program activities with campers, following Girl Scout program standards, safety and security guidelines, and activity checkpoints.ย 

  • Responsible for a specific set of horses, and their daily care.ย 

  • Ensures allย arena/badge work that is scheduled for each session is completed.ย 

  • Lead and ensure camper,ย equineย and staff safety during trail rides.ย 

  • Serve as a role model for campers, volunteers, and staff by embodying the Girl Scout Promise and Law.ย 

  • Responsibleย forย careย of horses, including feeding, watering, and veterinary care.ย ย 

  • Must be willing to participate in and or take a leadership role in equestrian programming.ย 

  • Keep staff living quarters and staff house cleanย 

  • Create an inclusive and welcoming camp environment for diverse participants.ย ย 

  • Contribute toย equestrianย centerโ€™sย cleanliness and organization.ย ย 

  • Performs all other duties as delegated by the Equestrian Manager or Equestrian Care Specialist.ย 

Safetyย ย 

  • Ensure compliance with ACA, GSUSA, and state health and safety standards.ย 

  • Remains alert to potential hazardous situations and follows established emergency procedures whenย required.ย 

Collaboration and communicationย 

  • Communicate respectivelyย with all coworkers.ย 

  • Collaborate as needed with all other camp staff professionally and respectfully.ย 

  • Report incidents that arise toย supervisor.ย 

Other:ย ย ย 

  • Be active outdoors in variable weather conditions all year, including walking aroundย campย on uneven terrain.ย 

  • Be welcoming, respectful, enthusiastic, and professional with colleagues, members of all ages, and the public at all times.ย

Job Qualifications:ย 

  • Eighteenย years of age or olderย 

  • Oneย plus yearsโ€™ experience as an Equestrian Intern and has at least 3ย years experienceย in the Tejas Riders EQ Leadership Program.ย 

  • Knowledge of and ability to work with children, adults, and horses.ย 

  • Knowledge /ย Understanding ofย philosophy and program of Girl Scouting or willingness to learn about.ย 

  • Flexible and creative in carrying out responsibilitiesย 

  • Good communicationย skillsย 

  • Ability to function as part of a teamย 

  • Ability to adapt to group living situationsย 

  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom her/his job puts her/him inย contactย 

  • Willingness toย workย a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.ย
