Job description

The Epic Program Executive Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, execution, and governance of the organization's Epic program. This role oversees large scale Epic initiatives including implementations, upgrades, optimizations, and regulatory initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, clinical and business operations, budget, and timelines. The Executive Director serves as the primary liaison between executive leadership, clinical stakeholders, operational leaders, Epic representatives, and IT teams.

  • 10 years' progressive health care IT experience, required
  • 5 years' leading large scale Epic implementations or enterprise health care system programs, required.
  • 3 years' experience managing complex, multi-million-dollar programs with executive visibility, required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Health Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field, required. 
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field, preferred. 

Program Leadership & Governance
    Lead the end-to-end Epic program portfolio, including implementations, upgrades, enhancements, and     optimization initiatives.
    Establish and manage program governance structures, decision making frameworks, escalation paths, and executive reporting.
    Partner with executive sponsors to align Epic initiatives with organizational strategy, clinical transformation goals, and operational priorities.
    Serve as the primary executive level contact for Epic Systems Corporation.

Strategic Planning & Execution
    Develop and maintain a multi-year Epic roadmap, incorporating regulatory requirements, business initiatives, and technology advancements.
    Oversee integrated program plans, dependencies, milestones, and deliverables across clinical, revenue cycle, and business domains.
    Ensure successful execution through disciplined program management practices, risk management, and change control.

Financial Management
    Develop and manage the Epic program budget, including capital and operating expenses.
    Monitor financial performance, vendor contracts, and resource utilization to ensure fiscal accountability.
    Support business case development and ROI analysis for Epic initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development
    Provide oversight and direction to Epic project managers, application directors/managers, and other program resources.
    Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture across IT, clinical, and operational teams.
    Support workforce planning, staffing models, and professional development of Epic leaders and team members.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
    Partner closely with clinical, operational, revenue cycle, and administrative leaders to ensure solutions meet user needs.
    Lead executive level communication regarding program status, risks, and outcomes.
    Champion change management, adoption strategies, training alignment, and user engagement to ensure successful outcomes.

Quality, Risk & Compliance
    Ensure Epic solutions meet regulatory, patient safety, privacy, and security requirements.
    Proactively identify and mitigate program risks and issues.
    Promote standardization, best practices, and data integrity across the Epic ecosystem.

    Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.

    Manages team members, which includes orientation, development and evaluation of team members, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services.  Participates in the recruiting, interviewing, and selecting team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates team member's performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
    Maintains responsibility for the fiscal management of department and assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources.
    Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
    Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
    May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
