Job description

The Assistant Director of Nursing for Community Health Centers (ADON of CHC’s) is responsible for the daily operations of the nursing department throughout HHarbor Health and reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) & SVP of the Community Health Centers The ADON will work closely with the Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer to improve the quality of patient care and services at Harbor Health's community health centers locations including Dorchester, Plymouth and Hyannis.

Job Duties include:

  • Assists the DON and CNO to recruit, develop and retain, qualified staff to support Harbor Health’s infrastructure and patient centered medical home initiatives, traveling between all 4 health centers.
  • In collaboration with health center managers and clinical teams, recommends, implements and problem solves activities regarding department operational issues including but not limited to serve as a nurse when deemed necessary.
  • Assists the DON and CNO in implementing the competency and training program for Clinical Care Managers, Clinical Care Coordinators and Medical Assistants.
  • Provides professional support, training and development to nursing and medical assistant staff, standardizing practices throughout all health centers, according to Harbor policies.
  • Develops a per diem nursing pool trained to work at all HHSI Health Centers.
  • Assists the DON and CNO in the development and revision of policies and procedures.
  • Assists in identification and development of departmental quality measures and health plan goals and objectives.
  • Assists the DON and CNO with the input of the clinical & practice managers in the development of an implementation of clinical team budgets.
  • Maintains ongoing relationships with outside organizations which support agency initiatives.
  • Monitors and manages grant contracts, programs and expenditures as appropriate.
  • Facilitates inter-departmental and inter-health center communication around patients, operations, policies and initiatives.
  • With input from the DON snd CNO, health center Clinical & Practice Managers, health center Staff and Site Medical Directors, assists with the design of and implementation of new department programs and clinical offerings, which reflect changing patient needs.
  • Attends and participates in conferences as needed.

Required/Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Current Massachusetts Nursing License from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • BSN and 3 Years of nursing experience or MSN required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical nursing and 1 year of experience in case management
  • 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, experience working with EPIC/OCHIN EMR highly desired
  • Ambulatory nursing experience preferred
  • Must be able to travel in a timely manner between all Harbor sites
