Description
Job Title: Epic HIM / ROI Specialist
Job Description:
Client is seeking a highly skilled HIM consultant with strong Epic HIM/ROI expertise to provide compliance-oriented oversight, workflow and control assessment, actionable recommendations, and documented quarterly reporting to the Administrator. The purpose of this project is to provide oversight of the hospital's Epic-based medical record system, including Epic-enabled Release of Information (ROI) workflows and Legal Medical Record governance, in regulation with Hawaii State Law. Consultant will be responsible for emphasizing Epic configuration, workflow controls, auditability, and operational practices that ensure the hospital can reliably define, protect, retrieve, and disclose the Legal Medical Record and Designated Record Set.
Logistics:
  • Part-Time: Estimated at roughly 12 hours per week, with ability to take on more hours as requested
  • Travel: Primarily Remote; Must be willing to travel on-site once per year
  • Duration: 12 Month Contract
  • Time Zone: Must be willing to work Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time

Requirements
Certification / Skillset / Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of acute care medical record system oversight (including ROI and legal medical record governance)
  • Consultants must be able to demonstrate Epic proficiency in HIM/ROI and medical record integrity workflows, including build-aware workflow evaluation (ability to assess whether Epic tools/configuration support policy and compliance)
  • Consultants with RHIA certified is preferred; RHIT acceptable with demonstrated acute care HIM leadership experience
  • Consultants must demonstrate experience in the following:
    • Epic HIM operations: chart completion workflows, document management, indexing/scanning, deficiency management (as applicable).
    • Epic-enabled ROI workflows and auditing (including release tracking/logging, authorization management, disclosure accounting, and timeliness monitoring).
    • Legal Medical Record/Designated Record Set definition and operationalization within Epic (what is included/excluded and how it is produced/exported).
    • Epic record integrity controls, including amendments/corrections, late entries, patient identity overlays/duplicates (MPI), merge/unmerge governance, and authentication/attestation workflows.
    • Epic security and audit trail interpretation relevant to HIM functions (access controls, break-the-glass, chart access auditing, and disclosure traceability).
    • Survey readiness support with emphasis on Epic evidence (reports, audit logs, control documentation, policies mapped to Epic workflows).
