Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
The Epic Health Information Exchange (HIE) Analyst will serve as the primary contact in the development and functionality of the Epic system/applications enabling the secure exchange of patient information among the Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) community. The VHC community of care includes our patients, community physicians/providers, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, public health offices, Virginia state Health Information Exchange Connect Virginia, and other organizations deemed appropriate to receive patient information. The Epic applications used to facilitate this information exchange include Care Everywhere, EpicCare Link, and MyChart. Other technologies such as HISP and DIRECT messaging will also be used.
This analyst position will develop these Epic application solutions by investigating processes to understand data and communication flows with individual tasks and transactions. The analyst typically fulfills multiple roles throughout the development, implementation, management, and on-going support of Virginia Hospital Center's comprehensive information exchange strategies. Gains knowledge of the Epic software, becomes familiar with hospital operations and workflow with community providers, and collaborates with the multi-disciplined team members and leaders on the Epic project translating business needs into secure information exchange functionality.
This role provides consultation and coordinates design/build/testing/go-live activities for these information exchange applications. The Epic Information Exchange Analyst is required to have an in-depth understanding of workflows, policies and procedures, patient care/clinical business objectives, regulatory requirements and industry best practices for information exchange.
The analyst understands and translates the business functionality into the Epic systems configuration and workflow. Provides application and technical support for these information exchange applications in addition to providing triage and troubleshooting to end users. Provides continual application evaluation, monitors the systems for data quality, efficiency, operation, and data integrity and appropriately escalates issues/problems. This role provides system analysis, design, development, documentation, and configuration as well as testing and training of the product. Plans and prepares the Epic applications test scripts for application testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing. The analyst provides standardization direction for the product aligning the application version and workflow with current standards.
Under limited supervision, gathers and analyzes user needs for developing and modifying applications in the healthcare environment. Analyzes complex results, proposes solutions and/or recommendations in addition to building, configuring and/or modifying the Epic information exchange applications using existing application tools. This role also provides complex application support, writes documentation and specifications.
The Epic Information Exchange Analyst is responsible for achieving in-depth knowledge of Epic System's Care Everywhere, EpicCare Link, and MyChart software and serves as a liaison between end users and Epic implementation staff. Conducts regular day-to-day communication with the Epic's installation team, reviews the software, analyzes business operations, and works with Epic, other third party vendors, project team(s), business representatives, subject matter experts, and end users to tailor the system to fit the organization's needs. The Analyst routinely performs in-depth analyses of workflows, data collection, report details/specifications, and assists with technical issues and is responsible for developing and documenting the internal procedures that are used in conjunction with Epic's applications, designs, builds, tests, installs and maintains those solutions. Evaluate and understand dependencies between applications to understand if making a change in one application would have a negative impact in another application.
The Epic Information Exchange Analyst will have a thorough understanding of appropriate and secure patient information exchange strategies, patient/provider portals.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a health, science, or business field, or an equivalent level of professional experience desired.
Experience:
• 1+ years industry related experience in an IS setting (Healthcare/Health Services, Information Services) or within applicable area in healthcare operations, with experience in information applications, including performing programming or applications analysis, or equivalent desired.
• 1+ year EHR experience either as analyst or end user desired.
Certification/Licensure:
Epic certification: application specific to be obtained within six months.
