Job Description
The Director - Epic Cogito Business Intelligence & Analytics is responsible for the strategic leadership, delivery, and governance of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions built on Epic's Cogito platform. This role ensures that the organization has timely, accurate, and actionable insights to support clinical, operational, financial, quality, and strategic decision-making. This position leads analytics teams and priorities, establishes enterprise reporting standards, and ensures data integrity and consistency across the organization. The Epic Director - Cogito partners closely with clinical, operational, finance, quality, population health, and executive leaders to translate data needs into meaningful dashboards, reports, and analytical tools. The role is also accountable for analytics readiness and continuity before, during, and after Epic implementations and upgrades.
Responsibilities
Analytics Strategy & Governance
o Serve as executive owner for Epic Cogito Business Intelligence and Analytics, including BI Tool governance, enterprise reporting and self-service analytics
o Define and maintain the enterprise Cogito analytics roadmap aligned with organizational strategy and Epic best practices
o Establish and enforce analytics governance, standards, and prioritization processes
o Ensure consistency, reliability, and usability of enterprise dashboards and reports
o Act as an escalation point for analytics related risks, issues, and data integrity concerns
Epic Implementation & Upgrade Support (Core Responsibility)
o Lead all analytics related activities for Epic implementations, upgrades, and expansions, including:
o Initial Epic go-live
o Cogito foundation setup and optimization
o Upgrade impact assessments and remediation planning
o Mergers, acquisitions, and data consolidation initiatives
o Ensure reporting continuity and accuracy before, during, and after go live events
o Partner with application, technical, and implementation teams to align reporting with future state workflows
o Validate analytics readiness prior to go live and support command center activities as needed
o Coordinate updates and enhancements to enterprise reporting following system changes
Reporting, Analytics & Data Enablement
o Oversee the development and delivery of enterprise reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions using Epic Cogito tools
o Support analytics needs across clinical care, operations, revenue cycle, quality, safety, population health, and executive reporting
o Ensure analytics solutions deliver actionable insights and measurable value to stakeholders
o Enable self-service analytics through training, documentation, and standardized data models
o Partner with data governance and analytics leadership on enterprise data strategies
Data Integrity, Quality & Standards
o Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all Cogito based analytics
o Establish standards for metric definitions, report certification, and data validation
o Collaborate with clinical, operational, and finance leaders to align KPIs and definitions
o Support audit, compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements tied to Epic data
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership
o Serve as a trusted analytics advisor to clinical, operational, finance, quality, and executive leaders
o Translate business and clinical questions into effective analytics solutions
o Facilitate prioritization discussions and manage expectations related to analytics delivery
o Provide regular updates on analytics performance, insights, and areas of opportunity
Team Leadership & Development
o Lead, mentor, and develop Cogito analytics managers, analysts, and developers
o Define clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
o Build sustainable internal analytics capabilities through training and knowledge sharing
o Foster a collaborative, service oriented, and results focused team culture
Optimization & Continuous Improvement
o Monitor analytics adoption, use, and user satisfaction
o Identify opportunities to enhance dashboards, automate reporting, and improve efficiency
o Drive continuous improvement in analytics delivery, tools, and processes
o Stay current on Epic Cogito enhancements and industry best practices
o Lead UX/UI analytics cognitive load principles to ensure dashboards are intuitive in support of user readiness
Work Environment
o On-site
o Extended hours may be required during Epic go lives and upgrade cycles
o Occasional travel for Epic meetings, training, or system deployments
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field.
o 5-7+ years of healthcare IT or analytics leadership experience.
o Advanced data engineering & expert SQL, including a strong foundation in data architecture.
o Proficiency in dimensional modeling.
o Strong understanding of healthcare clinical, operational, financial, and quality data
o Experience supporting Epic or enterprise implementations or major upgrades from an analytics perspective.
o Epic certification(s) in requested modules required or ability to obtain within defined timeframe.
o Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
o Master's degree in Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
o Epic Cogito certification(s).
o Demonstrated experience leading Epic Cogito analytics or enterprise reporting teams.
o Expertise in managing enterprise-wide deployments f Power BI, Tableau or Qlik, including. technical skills for building security frameworks and security performance monitoring.
o Experience in large health systems.
o Experience with data governance, KPI frameworks, and executive dashboards.
o Familiarity with population health and value-based care analytics.
