Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Product Support & Development team as an Engineering Support Specialist II in Pullman, WA. If you are looking to grow your career and are motivated by solving meaningful problems, we encourage you to apply today!

As an Engineering Support Specialist II you'll be responsible for managing and owning proto builds, collaborating with R&D on Engineering Change Order requests, troubleshooting issues with the manufacturing floor, and support of SEL products and processes. The role requires strong collaboration, a composed demeanor, technical proficiency, and a continuous improvement mindset to enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and customer support.

A typical day as an Engineering Support Specialist II might include:

  • Performing moderately complex AX design, proto build management, and troubleshooting of SEL products and processes by following established procedures with minimal supervision.

  • Providing technical support to SEL staff and customers through clear, timely, and effective written and verbal communication.

  • Supporting continuous improvement efforts by helping design, test, and implement process enhancements that improve efficiency, quality, and service delivery.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify goals, develop solutions, and contribute to successful outcomes.

  • Building deep expertise in a primary operational or R&D discipline (such as mechanical 3D design, Project Management, Efficiency improvements, System Infrastructure, or hardware & electrical) while maintaining working knowledge of a secondary discipline.

  • You have familiarity with Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, Microsoft AX, SQL).

  • You have strong written, verbal, and documentation skills.

  • You are interested in learning new technologies and assuming new responsibilities.

  • You have proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Enjoy working on a computer.

It is a plus if you have:

  • Experience troubleshooting process and worked in Product or Board and Components Manufacturing.

  • Experience conducting Improvement projects.

  • Experience working with proto builds.

  • Experience in simple programming.

  • Experience with CAD or 3D design.

  • Strong working knowledge with computer systems and a knack for learning them.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit and/or stand at least 8 hours

Pay Range: $28.04 - $41.43 per hour

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at level II, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Engineering Support Specialist I: $25.96 - $38.37 per hour

Engineering Support Specialist II: $28.04 - $41.43 per hour

Engineering Support Specialist III: $30.29 - $44.76 per hour
