Assists the Director of Environmental Services with the general activities of the department such as orienting new staff, providing guidance on day-to-day duties as necessary, assisting with hiring and disciplining as necessary and conducting meetings. The Environmental Services Supervisor is accountable for the operations of Housekeeping, Linen Services and Waste & Recycling.

Assigns, directs and oversees activities of the department (Day and Evening Shifts) working in close contact with the Director. Checks the attendance of the Environmental Services Aides and issues supplies needed for the day and evening shifts. Schedules all employees to provide adequate coverage of department assignments, cleaning/linen service schedules, etc. to expedite work. Makes rounds and inspects throughout the day to ensure that employees are performing job duties efficiently and up to departmental standards. Orients and trains employees on proper techniques for cleaning, mopping, polishing, etc. Recommends and assists in hiring employees, handling grievances, corrective action, work scheduling, vacations, transfers, etc. Works with the Director on preparation of daily action plans and special cleaning tasks. Keeps adequate stock of cleaning supplies. Responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of equipment. Answers promptly to page/phone system and acts accordingly, prioritizing requests according to importance/severity of tasks; and ensures duties are being performed properly and promptly. In charge of floor care/carpet care for the day and evening shifts, communicating with departments confirming times of scheduled floor maintenance. Conducts inspection tours and prepares written reports.

Places Environmental Services orders on the computer using Meditech System. Keeps track of purchasing requisitions/orders, confirmations and packing slips with record keeping (e.g. checking items received, back orders, etc.) with follow up. Completes and maintains accurate and current department records (e.g. attendance record log, product data, equipment warranties, supplies use, etc.). Assists in preparing the Environmental Services budget keeping within Budgetary Guidelines. Assists the Director with preparation and updating of job descriptions, Policy and Procedure Manuals, Department Manuals, Joint Commission documentation, etc.. Supervises employees regarding EBT/Vacation requests according to Departmental Policy, approving/denying requests according to availability and section seniority. Prepares department’s electronic payroll utilizing Meditech System. Monitors employees’ sick time occurrences. Schedules and conducts meetings, in-services and orientation programs for personnel in compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, etc. with recordkeeping. Other related duties as required.


High School Graduate required. 1-2 years of College preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory experience and 4 years of environmental services experience required. Demonstrated familiarity with general housekeeping operations and cleaning solutions. Proven experience maintaining hard surface floors as well as carpet maintenance. Demonstrated ability to operate buffing machines, burnishes, wall washing machines, wet and dry pick up, vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, etc. Proven ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing in the English language a timely and accurate fashion. Incumbent must possess the ability to make decisions and use independent judgment in performing his/her duties. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese language is preferred. Computer literacy is required.
