Job description

Summary:
The Environmental Coordinator will support environmental restoration, compliance, and operations projects, with a focus on groundwater contamination response, drinking water protection, and the operation and maintenance (O&M) of Point-of-Entry Treatment (POET) systems. The Environmental Coordinator serves as a primary liaison among project stakeholders, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and affected residents. The position supports environmental sampling, site characterization, remediation activities, and technical reporting. This position combines project coordination, environmental field work, technical document preparation, subcontractor oversight, and public engagement. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in environmental science, a working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, and the ability to manage environmental projects safely, efficiently, and professionally.
The salary range for this position is $74,000-$90,000 per year.

This position is telecommute eligible, the ideal candidate must live within commutable distance of Yakima, WA.
This position will be posted for 5 days or until filled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for residents, clients, subcontractors, and government representatives regarding environmental projects and drinking water protection programs.
  • Able to be physically present on location near Yakima Training Center within 24 hours to respond to non-emergency POET system interruptions, and within two hours for emergency situations.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repair, and operational support activities for POET systems and related infrastructure.
  • Respond to service interruptions and coordinate corrective actions to restore drinking water service.
  • Coordinate emergency drinking water provisions when treatment systems are unavailable.
  • Maintain and document stakeholder communications, service requests, maintenance records, and project activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and environmental information to impacted residents and stakeholders.
  • Protect confidential information and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Conduct environmental sampling of drinking water, groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, air, and other environmental media.
  • Perform field screening, monitoring, site characterization, and remediation support activities in accordance with approved work plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of treatment systems and environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Document field activities through field logs, reports, photographs, and data collection forms.
  • Travel to project sites as necessary to perform field work, inspections, and meetings.
  • Assist project managers in planning, scheduling, and executing environmental projects.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and verify work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables and provide updates to management.
  • Develop, review, and implement technical work plans, sampling plans, and project procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, data summaries, correspondence, and regulatory documentation.
  • Support proposal preparation and task order development when required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations including, but not limited to:
    • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
    • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
    • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
    • State drinking water and waste management regulations
  • Ensure environmental activities comply with regulatory requirements, permits, and project plans.
  • Assist with environmental data evaluation and development of technical recommendations.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all company and client safety requirements.
  • Participate in on-call support activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Hydrology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible environmental experience
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and environmental data management systems
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screening, background checks, and federal site access requirements
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental field sampling procedures
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PFAS investigations, treatment systems, and waste management.
  • Experience with drinking water treatment systems and operation and maintenance programs.
  • Experience working with federal clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or other applicable professional certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  • Experience working directly with public stakeholders on environmental issues.
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients

Working Environment:
Work is performed in both office and field settings. Field activities may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, construction sites, environmental contaminants, treatment systems, regulated waste, and environmental sampling locations. Travel to project sites, stakeholder residences, supplier locations, and client facilities may be required. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
  • Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
