Job description

Introduction
The Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program, known as Delaware Wetlands, provides quality reports on the status, health and function of Delaware's wetlands. It collaborates with other government agencies, businesses, non-profits and universities to further wetland research.

Summary Statement
This seasonal position runs roughly 8 months from May through the end of January (exact start date and end dates are flexible). The technician will be an integral addition to a small wetland monitoring and assessment team. This position will help develop a screening protocol to evaluate potential tidal wetland restoration projects using dredge material. This includes pilot testing the protocol in multiple locations. Field Work will include wetland site visits by foot and boat in the Inland Bays as part of a field crew to collect data on wetland vegetation, elevation, and hydrology. Office work will include data entry, using GIS, compiling and evaluating technical data, and scientific writing. Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
  • Collects field samples and data.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  5. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  6. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire
All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
