Job description

Insurance Specialist

The Insurance Specialist supports the Risk Management function through administration of surety bond programs, insurance compliance requirements, protective policies, claims oversight, and risk-related reporting. This role partners with field operations, brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders to ensure contract compliance, timely bond issuance, accurate recordkeeping, and effective risk management support.

Manage all surety bond requests and issuance processes, including bid, performance/payment, license, permit, and self-insurance bonds. — Task Allocation: 30%

Review contracts and insurance requirements; issue certificates and endorsements while ensuring contractual compliance. — Task Allocation: 25%

Coordinate Railroad Protective and Owners & Contractors Protective policies with brokers, carriers, and field operations. — Task Allocation: 15%

Maintain RMIS records, databases, invoicing, and reporting related to bonds, policies, and compliance activities. — Task Allocation: 15%

Provide claims oversight support, participate in claim reviews, and assist with risk analytics and reporting activities as needed. — Task Allocation: 15%

Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Risk Management, Business, or related field.

Experience: Experience supporting insurance, surety, risk management, contracts, claims administration, or related functions.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with RMIS systems, insurance certificates, surety bonds, claims management, and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements:

Primarily sedentary office-based work involving extended periods of sitting, computer use, communication with internal and external stakeholders, and occasional lifting of office materials.

Licenses and Certifications:

Not required. Insurance, Risk Management, or related professional certifications are a plus.

Work Environment:

Professional office environment with regular interaction with field operations, insurance brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, and internal business partners. Requires effective management of multiple priorities, deadlines, and time-sensitive requests.
