Police Officer (Recruitment List)
The City of Independence offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support the health, well-being, and financial security of its employees. This includes 100% city-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families on select plans. The City also provides life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance at no cost, with optional voluntary life coverage for employees, spouses, and dependents. Retirement benefits include full participation in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), with the City covering the entire contribution. Additionally, the City funds HRAVEBA accounts to help offset medical expenses and offers generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and 12 paid holidays per year. Employees can also choose from a range of supplemental benefits such as identity protection, trauma, accident, hospital indemnity, and critical illness coverage. Wellness is further supported through 24/7 access to an on-site fitness center and a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
To be eligible for the officer position:
- Submit a City of Independence Application through this web page
- Complete the NTN process with a passing score in all areas.
- ORPAT must be run under 6 Minutes and 20 Seconds to move on in the process.
The Independence Police Department offers full testing services through National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN). To schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Law Enforcement, and sign up for the Independence, Oregon Police Department. Upon completion of the entry level exam and ORPAT testing, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Independence Police Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry level exam and ORPAT will be placed on the department's eligibility list.
The Independence Police Department will contact candidates on this list to invite them to continue the selection process.
If you have already completed the ORPAT and/or the Police Officer Selection Test with another agency within the last year, you may submit those results on agency letterhead in lieu of testing with NTN.
