The Mission

Leidos is seeking a self-motivated team member to provide Technical Writing support to a large enterprise IT contract for the DOD. This individual will work in a team environment to ensure mission needs are met and ensure functionality of capabilities and services for customers. This individual should be detail oriented in order to capture customer inquiries appropriately. The Technical Writer will operate as a member of the Project Management Office (PMO).

This is a 100% on-site position. All work must be performed at the customer site in Bethesda at the Intelligence Community Campus.

Primary Tasks

  • Author, review, and update accreditation packages and supporting documentation to maintain existing ATO state for all systems operating in the production environment that follow all government, IC, DoD, DISA, NIST, or industry standards and policies.
  • Draft, expand, refine, and edit technical concepts or solutions into easy-to-read, comprehensive, compliant, signature-ready, and compelling documents tailored for audiences ranging from entry-level technical to executive level
  • Responsible for creating and writing various types of user documents, including how-to guides, references, manuals, cheat sheets, or instructions
  • Explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language
  • Provide professional expertise in technical writing and editing
  • Provide field, data definition, and data flow documentation and formats technical publications from pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel and other available resources
  • Comfortable communicating officially and unofficially via briefings, meetings, emails, or other collaboration technologies, with Leidos program leadership and government leadership.
  • Responsible for creating and writing various types of user documents, including how-to guides, references, manuals, cheat sheets, or instructions.
  • Standardize documentation where appropriate, e.g., templates, plans, processes, procedures
  • Ensure style, formatting, and terminology align with agency standards, style guides, and specialized vocabulary relevant to the subject matter.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong ability to quickly and effectively gather requirements, perform research, compile information, prioritize and collate, draft, edit, and produce high-quality documentation that satisfies customer needs with minimal follow-on work needed
  • Proven ability to distill complex information into clear, concise text
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Proven experience designing and delivering engineer-oriented documentation as well as working directly with Engineering teams
  • Ability to work independently and deliver accurate content under deadline pressure
  • Ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work cross functionally among PMO and technical staff
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and fluid environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, English, Journalism, or related discipline. Additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 3 or more years of relevant professional experience in technical writing, documentation development, systems engineering support, cybersecurity documentation, or related fields

Clearance

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph required OR active TS/SCI and willingness to obtain and maintain a poly.
  • US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the government contracts we support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience drafting IT, Cybersecurity, or related technical documentation using federal government, particularly DIA, official document requirements, style guides, and writing styles.
