Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,787 - $6,021 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,787 - $8,430 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice President for Information Security and Infrastructure Services, the Systems Administrator provides entry-level technical support for university systems, servers, infrastructure, and related services. This position assists with the installation, configuration, patching, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of operating systems, server platforms, and related infrastructure components across on-premises and cloud-based environments. Responsibilities include monitoring system health and backup processes, supporting account and access administration, maintaining system documentation, and assisting with issue resolution and daily operational support.

Key Qualifications

  • General knowledge of operating systems, servers, infrastructure, and systems administration principles.
  • Ability to perform routine system installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to monitor system health, backups, and routine alerts, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to document and perform system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps clearly and accurately.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with others.
  • Organizational and time management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive data and information.
  • Analytical skills to think critically to diagnose problems and recommend solutions.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field. Relevant education, training, certifications, and/or experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
      • Basic familiarity with Linux and/or Windows Server administration.
      • Basic familiarity with virtualization platforms and cloud services, including Google Workspace and/or AWS.
      • Basic familiarity with directory services, including Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, and/or Google Workspace.
      • Basic familiarity with scripting languages, including Bash, PowerShell, and/or Python.
      • Basic familiarity with ManageEngine patching, including patch compliance monitoring.
      • Ability to deploy AWS resources, including EC2, OpenSearch, S3, Athena, and Lambda, and troubleshoot common issues.
      • Strong customer service, collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
