Job description

The Role - What You'll Do

Barr is seeking a Civil Engineering CADD Technician to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support multidisciplinary civil engineering project teams by providing computeraided drafting and design support across a range of infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, selfmotivated, and clientfocused. They are comfortable working both independently and as part of project teams, communicate effectively with engineers and clients, and are flexible in adapting to shifting project demands. This role involves supporting both officebased design work and occasional field activities.

Your Impact - Key Responsibilities

CAD and design support:

  • Provide computeraided drafting and design support for civil engineering projects

  • Process survey data and incorporate it into project designs

  • Perform grading design and generate 3D design surfaces

  • Develop and manage project CAD file structures

  • Prepare construction drawings and develop renderings

  • Develop material quantity takeoffs from construction drawings

Engineering and project support:

  • Work with engineers to design earthwork and utility projects

  • Assist with specification preparation and technical documentation

  • Prepare reports and supporting project deliverables

Field and construction support:

  • Assist with construction observation, administration, and monitoring

  • Participate in outoftown assignments and field work as required

About the Opportunity

  • Hybrid: A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. Hybrid work refers to splitting time between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Hibbing, MN office.

  • Travel expectation:up to 10% domestic travel for local project site visits and training.

About You - Required Core Competencies

  • Education: Twoyear technical or engineering certificate/degree, or equivalent experience and/or coursework directly related to the role

  • Experience: 0-2 years of experience performing related work in an engineering or industrial environment

  • Software: Familiarity with civil CADD design platform: Autodesk, Civil 3D

  • Driver's license:possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D

  • Familiarity with spreadsheet and wordprocessing software

  • Experience developing, using, and interpreting construction drawings

  • Experience with construction observation, documentation, and cost estimating

  • Ability and willingness to travel and stay near client sites for field work, construction observation, testing, and investigations

Compensation: anticipated range of $24.25-$32.00 hourly. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
