Program Technician (PT) II

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the department and is subject to change as business needs arise.

Come join our fantastic team of support staff in the Fresno Area Audit Office as a Program Technician (PT) II. This is a great opportunity to work with our diverse and amazing audit crews and learn valuable research skills.

Under the supervision of the Tax Administrator I, the PT II is responsible for a variety of tasks including: responding to audit related inquiries, processing correspondence regarding employment tax issues, answering reporting questions from the employer community, and providing facts that require knowledge of tax laws and procedures. The PT II will also assist with conducting audit prep work, such as, skip-tracing, account analysis, and Internet searches, scheduling employer audit appointments, and updating case notes and may also perform a wide range of general and clerical duties including cashiering functions, mail duties, office supply and machine inventory and ordering, and invoice processing, as needed. These functions require interaction with employers regarding the more difficult employment tax issues and providing sensitive and detailed program information and/or direction to the public or employees.

This position may be filled at either the Program Technician (PT) II level or at the entry level Program Technician (PT) classification for recruitment purposes! The position(s) are headquartered in Fresno, CA and may be eligible for limited telework. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

Position exists in Fresno. Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month.
