Reporting to the Program Manager, the Simulation Software Engineer (System Engineer) supports the Weapons Analysis Facility (WAF) at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport by developing, testing, and enhancing simulation engines used in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) undersea weapon system simulators. Integrates new capabilities into the WAF simulator and ensures compliance with hard real-time system requirements. This is a contingent position expected to be located in Newport, RI.

What You'll Do
  • Develops, tests, and enhances simulation engines supporting WAF HWIL simulators.
  • Integrates new or upgraded models into the WAF simulation framework.
  • Supports feasibility studies to improve simulator performance and adapt to hardware specification changes.
  • Implements simulation functionality including command and control messaging, signal processing algorithms, and diagnostic communications monitoring.
  • Develops software supporting distributed and parallel processing environments to meet hard real-time timing constraints.
  • Utilizes programming languages and tools including Java, C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and CUDA.
  • Supports simulator execution on Concurrent Computing RedHawk OS systems and Dell systems running Red Hat or Windows.
  • Produces technical documentation and deliverables in accordance with contract CDRLs.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
  • Three (3) years of experience develops, tests, and enhances simulation engines and incorporates new capabilities.
  • Seven or more (7+) years of experience develops, tests, and enhances simulation engines for weapons systems or UUV simulation environments.
  • Experience supports hardware-in-the-loop simulation systems.
  • Familiarity supports hard real-time operating systems such as RedHawk Linux.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
