Job Description:

Technically skilled Data and AI Analyst to support the responsible and innovative use of data and artificial intelligence across the organization. This role blends analytical curiosity with mission-driven impact, enabling smarter services and informed decisions for our community.
Working as part of the AI & Data Team, the analyst will help design, deploy, and monitor data pipelines, predictive models, dashboards, and internal AI tools — with a strong emphasis on SAS Viya for data analytics and machine learning. You will collaborate with departments across the Town to unlock the value of municipal data while ensuring transparency, ethics, and equity in AI use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Visualization

• Analyze structured and unstructured data to uncover insights that support operational and strategic goals. Includes supporting use cases related to IoT devices and Smart City initiatives.

• Develop dashboards and self-service analytics using tools such as SAS Visual Analytics, Power BI, and other Town-supported platforms.

• Partner with departments to interpret data and tell compelling, actionable stories.

  • AI & Machine Learning

• Assist in building and monitoring AI models using SAS Viya and other platforms.

• Support experimentation and proof-of-concepts for GenAI, predictive analytics, and NLP.

• Evaluate AI models for fairness, transparency, and performance.

  • Data Governance & Integrity

• Support data governance practices, including metadata standards, data quality monitoring, and data lifecycle management.

• Assist in audits and reviews of AI tools for risk, bias, and alignment with Cary’s ethical AI principles.

  • Collaboration & Innovation

• Work cross-functionally with IT, HR, legal, communications, and line-of-business departments.

• Support training sessions to improve data literacy and AI readiness across the organization.

• Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, openness, and OneCary teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Public Policy, or related field; Master's preferred.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with data analysis, AI modeling, or business intelligence tools.

• Experience with SAS Viya, especially SAS Visual Analytics and Model Studio, is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Python, R, SQL, or other data programming languages.

• Understanding of ethical AI, data privacy, and public sector challenges a plus.
