Introduction to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) 

About the Program

The First Feather Program is a workforce readiness training initiative designed to prepare Doyon shareholders ages 18-21 for entry into Alaska's industrial and field-based workforce. Delivered in a structured, professional environment, the program focuses on building foundational safety knowledge, workplace expectations, and employability skills required for success in demanding operational settings.

This program combines classroom instruction with practical application to introduce participants to industry standards, safety culture, and real-world work expectations. Training is aligned with Alaska workforce demand and provides exposure to recognized training pathways relevant to entry-level roles across multiple industries

Open to Doyon Shareholders only.

Program Overview

The First Feather Program is a one-week, in-resident training conducted Monday through Friday. Participants will engage in a combination of instructor-led sessions, hands-on activities, and scenario-based learning designed to reinforce key safety and workforce concepts.

The program integrates core training components, including:

  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) training exposure or completion
  • National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP 10-Hour General Industry)
  • First Feather workforce readiness instruction focused on safety culture, accountability, and professional expectations

Program Objectives

The First Feather Program is designed to:

  • Build foundational knowledge of workplace safety and hazard recognition
  • Introducing participants to industry expectations and structured work environments
  • Develop employability skills including communication, accountability, and reliability
  • Provide exposure to training pathways that support entry into Alaska's workforce
