Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Rail and Transit Engineer to join our Rail & Transit Team. This is an entry-level position and is based out of New York, NY.

Your role
  • Assist in the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and OpenRoads for R&T'and other Infrastructure projects as needed.
  • Perform data acquisition and analysis, including collection of field data, routine engineering calculations, and evaluation of design alternatives for infrastructure assignments.
  • Prepare technical sections of reports, cost estimates, and documentation under supervision of senior engineers, supporting New York–based transportation and civil design projects.
  • Participate in field observations and construction-related activities, including review of shop drawings, documentation of progress, and quality-control data collection where appropriate.
  • Support project management and operational workflows across the R&T business by coordinating cross-functional activities, tracking deliverables, compiling project documentation, and assisting with day‑to‑day business operations.
About you
  • EXPERIENCE: 0–2 years of engineering experience, including internship experience in transportation, project management, or design using OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or related engineering platforms.
  • EDUCATION: Completion of Bachelor's degree in a Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college/university.
  • SPECIAL SKILLS: Proficiency with OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ArcGIS, Rhino. Ability to perform engineering calculations, develop 3D models, and assemble materials for permit applications and project documentation.
  • PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: E.I. or E.I.T. obtained (preferred) or ability to obtain within 12 months of graduation.
