Job description

Estimator (Residential Construction)

Choice Builders

Cedar City Utah

About Choice Builders

Choice Builders is a veteran-owned, award-winning custom and semi-custom home builder based in Cedar City. We are known for craftsmanship, clear communication, and a values-driven process. Our mission is simple: build homes the right way and deliver a building experience rooted in honesty, integrity, service, results, and personal growth.

About the Role

This role is focused on one thing: Building accurate, disciplined estimates that set projects up for success. You'll spend your time working through plans, numbers, and scopes, coordinating with trade partners and the construction team to validate and refine scopes of work within our established systems. The work requires attention to detail, along with steady pace and consistent follow-through--estimates need to be accurate, complete, and delivered on time.

This role supports both custom homes, where estimating is more conceptual and evolving, and semi-custom production work, where accuracy, completeness, and organization are critical to setting the right price.

It's a role for someone who questions assumptions, stays organized, and takes pride in getting the information right before a project ever begins.

What You'll Do

  • Build conceptual and detailed estimates for custom and production homes
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and review plans to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and missing scope
  • Customize, validate, and refine scopes of work within Buildertrend templates
  • Coordinate with trade partners to gather, clarify, and compare pricing
  • Track assumptions and ensure estimates are complete, organized, and defensible
  • Work with the construction and selections teams to align scope, pricing, and project details
  • Prepare clean, well-organized estimate packages for internal use
  • Maintain steady progress and follow-through to ensure estimates are delivered on time
  • Continuously improve estimating accuracy, organization, and workflow

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of hands-on residential estimating experience (or direct involvement in building residential estimates)
  • This is not an entry-level role. Candidates should already be comfortable working from residential plans, building scopes, and contributing to real project estimates.
  • Strong attention to detail and an organized, methodical approach to work
  • Ability to read and interpret residential plan sets
  • Comfortable working with numbers, takeoffs, spreadsheets, and pricing
  • Ability to question information, validate assumptions, and think through scope
  • Consistent follow-through and ability to maintain a steady pace
  • Ability to deliver complete, accurate estimates within established timelines (typically 2-4 weeks depending on project complexity), adjusting pace and level of detail between custom and semi-custom work
  • Clear, professional communication with both team members and trade partners
  • Alignment with our values: Honesty, Integrity, Service, Results, Growth

Preferred:

  • Experience with Buildertrend, or similar construction software
  • Strong proficiency in spreadsheets (advanced Excel or equivalent), including organizing, analyzing, and managing data
  • Comfortable working in a tech-driven environment with the ability to quickly learn and use tools such as Bluebeam, takeoff software, and project management systems

Why This Role Matters

Accurate estimating is critical to how we operate. It impacts project performance, trade partner relationships, and the overall client experience.

Location Matters

This is an in-office role in Cedar City. Daily collaboration with our team and local trade partners is essential. Candidates who live locally or are committed to relocating and building a life in a smaller, outdoor-oriented community tend to succeed here. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the company long-term.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $63,000 - $79,000 DOE
  • Health Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k) with match
