Entry Level Remote Medical Coding information

What is an entry level remote medical coder?

An entry level remote medical coder is a professional who reviews and assigns standardized codes to medical diagnoses and procedures using healthcare documentation. Working remotely means they perform these duties from home or another offsite location, often using specialized software and secure internet connections. Entry level positions typically require a certification such as CPC or CCS, and coders work under supervision while gaining experience in the field. Their primary role is to ensure accurate coding for billing and insurance purposes, helping healthcare providers receive proper reimbursement. Remote medical coding offers flexibility and is increasingly common in the healthcare industry.

Can I get a medical coding job with no experience?

Entry level remote medical coding jobs often do not require prior experience, but candidates typically need a certification such as CPC or CCS and a good understanding of medical terminology and coding guidelines. Employers may provide training or onboarding for new coders, making it possible to start without previous work experience in the field.

What is the difference between Entry Level Remote Medical Coding vs Entry Level Remote Medical Billing?

AspectEntry Level Remote Medical CodingEntry Level Remote Medical Billing
CertificationsCPMA, CPC, CCSNone typically required, but certifications like CPC can help
Work EnvironmentRemote, healthcare facilities, coding companiesRemote, healthcare providers, billing companies
Job ResponsibilitiesAssigning codes to diagnoses and proceduresGenerating bills, submitting claims, following up on payments
Industry UsageWidely used in hospitals, clinics, insurance companiesCommon in healthcare providers, billing services

Entry Level Remote Medical Coding focuses on translating medical diagnoses and procedures into standardized codes, requiring specific certifications. Entry Level Remote Medical Billing involves creating and submitting claims for reimbursement, often with less certification emphasis. Both roles are remote and essential in healthcare revenue cycle management, but they differ in responsibilities and certification requirements.

What pays more, CCS or CPC?

In medical coding, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentials generally lead to higher salaries than Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials due to their focus on hospital coding and advanced skills. However, CPCs are more common and may have more job opportunities, often resulting in competitive pay depending on experience and location. Both certifications can increase earning potential for entry-level remote medical coders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Remote Medical Coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Remote Medical Coder, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems, typically supported by completion of a medical coding program or certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, coding software like 3M or EncoderPro, and HIPAA compliance is essential. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and strong written communication are key soft skills for accuracy and effective remote collaboration. These skills and qualifications ensure precise code assignment, regulatory compliance, and the smooth processing of healthcare claims in a remote environment.

Is it easy to get a remote job as a medical coder?

Securing a remote medical coding job can be achievable with the right certifications, such as CPC or CCS, and relevant training. Entry-level positions are often available, but competition can vary depending on experience and the demand for remote work in the healthcare industry.

Will AI eventually replace medical coders?

AI technology is increasingly used to assist medical coders by automating routine coding tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace them in the near future. Medical coding requires critical thinking, understanding of complex medical terminology, and adherence to coding guidelines, which currently benefit from human oversight. Entry-level remote medical coders can focus on developing skills in coding software and staying updated on coding standards to remain valuable in the evolving field.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level remote medical coders, and how can they be overcome?

Entry-level remote medical coders often face challenges such as learning to interpret complex medical records, staying updated on changing coding standards, and managing time effectively without in-person supervision. Proactively seeking feedback, participating in online forums or mentorship programs, and utilizing productivity tools can help overcome these hurdles. Building strong communication skills is also essential, as remote coders regularly collaborate with healthcare providers and team members through digital channels to clarify documentation or resolve discrepancies.

Job description

Founded by games industry veterans, Rushdown was created with a simple philosophy in mind: We believe that when talented developers are consistently challenged and given clear ownership of their work, extraordinary things will happen. As a co-dev game studio, we now focus on solving some of the most difficult problems that face multiplayer games - and we bring our experience working on games like PUBG, League of Legends, and Rocket League with us. We truly love the work we do and we want to funnel our passion and expertise into features and games that billions of players will enjoy worldwide.

Our Role

Rushdown Studios is looking for an experienced Game Build Engineer to join us in support of an existing partner studio! In this role, you'll work alongside our existing team to improve infrastructure reliability and automate infrastructure creation, builds, and deployments for a large-scale game development project.

Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated and demonstrated team player with the ability to juggle and jump between different tasks as necessary.

Work Location: Rushdown Studios is based in Saratoga Springs, NY and we have a strong preference for local candidates willing to work from our office on a hybrid basis (i.e., Tuesday-Thursday) or fully remote candidates in the Eastern United States. However, we're always open to expanding our list of remote-eligible states for the right candidate, as well.ย

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain build systems for multiple target platforms (e.g., PC, Xbox, PlayStation).
  • Deploy infrastructure-as-code for cloud resources using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure Bicep, or Azure Resource Manager templates.
  • Design and develop CI/CD pipelines for game builds and deployments.
  • Automate game asset packaging and distribution workflows.
  • Optimize build times and artifact management for large game projects.

Requirements

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines in TeamCity for game development projects.
  • Familiarity with version control systems for large binary assets.
  • Proficiency in automation tools (e.g., MSBuild, FastBuild, Incredibuild).
  • Experience scripting with languages like Python, PowerShell, or Groovy.
  • Understanding of game packaging and deployment requirements for different platforms.
  • Experience compiling code and/or managing pipelines that compile code.
  • Ability to debug unexpected issues that arise during development.
  • Experience working with cloud providers (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Willingness to selflessly put player experiences first - before even your own code and ego.
  • Proactive approach to communication, particularly when it comes to unblocking yourself and navigating obstacles as part of a team.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with build systems like Jenkins, TeamCity, or Azure DevOps, specifically for game development projects.
  • Experience with game engine build pipelines (e.g., in Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines).
  • Knowledge of game development workflows and asset management.
  • General understanding of C-family programming languages.
  • Previous work using version control for game development (e.g., Perforce, Git LFS).

Benefits:

  • Compensation: $125,000-150,000/year. Please note that final base pay will ultimately depend upon a combination of factors, including your prior experience, general qualifications, and broader skill set.
  • 9 Paid Holidays plus Flexible PTO and Annual Winter Break Closure
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Annual Video Game Budget
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Paid Parental Leave

EEO Statement

At Rushdown Studios, we believe that we're made better by each of the different perspectives that our team members bring to the table. We said it above, and we'll say it again: We want to hear from you, even if you don't meet all of the requirements for a specific role.

We're also an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of race; color; ancestry or national origin; religion; physical or mental disability; age; sex, including pregnancy; sexual orientation; gender, gender identity, or gender expression; medical condition; genetic information; or marital, military, or veteran status.
