Job description

Job Title:  Quality Engineer (Quality Systems Focus)

Job Summary:  

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance protocols and procedures, specifically tailored to CNC machining processes. Their expertise will help us achieve consistent product excellence and customer satisfaction. 

Primary Focus for This Position

  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS)'

  • Support internal and external audits (IATF 16949)

  • Manage document control and systems compliance

  • Lead correction actions related to system-level issues

  • Drive continuous improvement within quality systems and processes

Responsibility: 

  • Ensures customer and internal quality processes and methods are followed in all aspects of manufacturing. 
  • Acts as "Voice of the Customer" in all situations to guide compliance with expectations. 
  • Manage all facets of customer PPAPs. Define, apply analyze and distribute results of customer/supplier measures; escalate internally and externally when appropriate. 
  • Duty and authority to stop production when nonconforming situations are identified. 
  • Capable of managing quality system within the plant 
  • Reviews all purchased products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor. 
  • Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures. 
  • Follows customer and internal standards to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities, maintains tracking of and presents status of plant open incidents. 
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management. 
  • Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities. 
  • Prepares and presents technical, program and quality incident information to team members, management and customers when needed. 
  • May direct, train, coach, mentor and guide technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities, including quality techs, sort companies and engineering staff. 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality standards. 
  • Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality standards. 
  • Development, implement and maintain control plans; participate in the development of APQP and FMEA documentation and implementation. 

Academic/Educational Requirements: 

  • BS degree in engineering or related field or equivalent education.  
  • Work experience or certifications will be considered in lieu of education/degree. 
 

 Required Skills/Experience: 

  • Must be proficient in quality system requirements, including IATF and/or ISO Standards.  
  • Must be proficient in GR&R studies, CMM, SPC, GD&T, APQP, FMEA and PPAP. 
  • Experience supporting and maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) within a manufacturing environment; automotive experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits, including preparation, participation, and follow-up on correction actions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  
  • Ability to interact and communicate at all levels of organization, and with customer engineering and/or management. 
  • Ability to effectively apply problem solving/continuous improvement principles and techniques to quality and mfg. principles. 
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.  
  • Customer focus - need to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
