Job description

Novara provides safety, operational risk management, and sustainability software that empowers organizations to identify and resolve issues before they become incidents. Through the Flex and Risk Management Center platforms, Novara helps organizations manage operational risk proactively with a system they can configure to fit their operations, data that unifies risk and safety intelligence, and tools that increase workforce participation. Novara's combination of software, training, and AI-powered tools put people and safety first while protecting critical operations.
Role Description
Novara Software is seeking a QA Automation Engineer to expand and strengthen automated test coverage for Novara Flex, our EHS and compliance platform. This position sits within an embedded quality engineering model, working directly inside product scrum teams rather than operating as a downstream validation function.
The QA Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automated API and end to end test coverage within an established Playwright and TypeScript framework, integrating that coverage into our CI/CD quality gates, and owning performance and load testing for the platform. Quality Engineering holds release gate authority at Novara, so this role directly influences whether a build advances through our Dev, QA, UAT, and Production pipeline.
This is a hands on automation role. The successful candidate is a strong engineer who thinks in terms of risk and coverage, communicates clearly, and raises quality concerns early rather than at the end of a sprint.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated API and end to end tests using Playwright and TypeScript, prioritizing the API layer for speed, stability, and diagnostic value.
  • Apply risk based testing to determine what warrants automation, and articulate the reasoning behind coverage decisions.
  • Integrate automated tests into GitHub Actions pipelines and maintain the automated quality gates that govern promotion between environments.
  • Monitor, triage, and resolve test failures and flakiness, addressing root cause rather than suppressing or skipping tests.
  • Perform database level validation using SQL to confirm data integrity, including during the platform migration from MongoDB to PostgreSQL.
  • Own performance and load testing, establishing baselines for high traffic endpoints and reporting regressions with actionable data.
  • Maintain test cases, execution results, and requirement traceability in Xray, and document defects with clear reproduction steps, severity, and supporting evidence.
  • Participate in refinement, estimation, and sprint ceremonies, identifying testability concerns and coverage gaps before work is committed.
  • Collaborate with developers on test code reviews, testability improvements, and shift left quality practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the automation framework, test data strategy, and quality reporting.

Knowledge, Experience, Requirements:
  • Three or more years of professional QA experience, including demonstrated ownership of test automation you built or substantially extended.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, or Java.
  • Hands on experience with Playwright, or extensive experience with Cypress or Selenium and a working understanding of Playwright.
  • Solid API testing skills, including REST endpoint testing, authentication flows, payload and schema validation, status code handling, and negative and edge case scenarios. Experience with Postman or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience executing automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, including headless execution, parallel runs, test artifacts, and reporting.
  • Strong test case management experience: authoring, organizing, and maintaining test cases and execution records in a formal test management tool such as Xray, ADO, etc.
  • Strong defect documentation practices, including clear reproduction steps, severity and priority assessment, and supporting evidence.
  • SQL proficiency for data validation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in an Agile or Scrum delivery model.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical failures to non technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with agentic or AI based feature testing, including non deterministic output, evaluation criteria, latency, and fallback behavior.
  • Performance and load testing experience with k6, JMeter, or a comparable tool.
  • Experience testing through a database migration or comparable large scale platform change.
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes based test environments.
  • Experience using AI assisted development tooling to accelerate test authoring and maintenance.
  • Background in EHS, safety, or compliance software.

Compensation:
Annual Base Salary Range of 100k-110k
Annual Bonus Opportunity of 10%
As a growing company, Novaravalues its employees by supporting them with a full benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, PTO, Paid and Floating Holidays, 401k with Company match and immediate vesting, Company-funded Life Insurance, Employee Assistance Programs, and No-cost Mental Health Benefits.
