Salary Range: $82,435-$103,043

Position Summary
The MCSO Public Information Manager serves as a lead ofthe MCSO Public Information Office whose primary responsibilities include, butare not limited to, proactively responding to the public, internal and externalmedia requests, drafting and creating marketing materials in response torequests or to inform the public of new programs or events, and performing avariety of administrative activities, and both social and mainstream mediamonitoring for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
The Public Information Manager serves as a communicationsadvisor to MCSO leadership and staff and is responsible for outreach, publicinformation, website content and communication support for divisions across theorganization. The Public Information Manager crafts internal and externalcommunications, including press releases, coordinates press conferences, aswell as writes, edits, and reviews reports, presentations and other documentsthat are communicated internally and externally.
The ideal candidate is bilingual (fluent in English andSpanish), self-motivated, a team player, takes initiative and can be trusted towork independently and will represent the Sheriff's Office in a professionalmanner as a spokesperson. Please note, flexibility in schedule and theability to work nights and weekends is required in order to attend communityevents or in response to critical public safety incidents as needed.
Essential Functions:
• Writes and disseminates press releases.
• Leads public information requests and records requests.
• Delivers a briefing Meltwater insights to the Sheriff daily.
• Handles media inquiries and organizes interviews, acting as the main media contact.
• Coordinates media interviews (confirm/schedule) and press conferences.
• Stays abreast with media, social media and Meltwater and informs the team of any concerns.
• Finds positive agency stories to showcase to media.
• Develops and nurtures relationships with local, state, and national media.
• Responsible for developing PIO's familiarity with Sheriff's community involvement and organizations.
• Maintains a list of all Media/County contacts.
• Acts a community liaison and maintains strong communication and partnership with the Community Engagement Team.
• Archives pictures and videos.
• Assists with Department reports.
• Records/edits Sheriff's Office-produced videos as needed.
• Coordinates the Sheriff's podcast(s).
• Supports the Executive Support Director/Public Information Manager in signing the agency up for parades, events, and etc.
• Attends events and assists in capturing videos and photos during these occasions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accreditedinstitution in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Media or relatedfield and three years of public relations experience. This position requires avalid driver's license.
