Job description

Job Title: Project EngineerJob Description

This Project Engineer role supports a large ground-up retail construction project in Terre Haute, IN, serving as a key onsite resource for project coordination, scheduling, and quality control. You will work full-time on site, closely supporting the Superintendent and project team to keep construction activities on schedule, maintain safety and quality standards, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders. Responsibilities
  • Assist the onsite Superintendent with daily construction activities and project coordination tasks.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and technical documents to identify and address QA/QC concerns.
  • Support technology-related activities, including use of construction software and digital tools.
  • Update and maintain project schedules using construction scheduling software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to support project progress.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor work progress, quality, and adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Provide technical support to the project team by clarifying construction terms, documents, and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and quality standards, including monitoring work around heavy equipment and enforcing site rules.
  • Assist in managing project resources, including tracking materials, equipment, and labor needs.
  • Prepare and distribute status reports and updates for stakeholders, including schedule and progress summaries.
  • Support the preparation, tracking, and organization of RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Identify opportunities to assist the team proactively and take initiative to support project needs.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma, GED, or higher education.
  • At least 3 years of construction experience, preferably on active job sites.
  • Full understanding of construction terms and processes such as RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using construction scheduling software to update and track project schedules.
  • Hands-on experience working on construction sites with heavy equipment and established safety standards.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite position based in Terre Haute, IN, working approximately 40 to 45 hours per week. You will work primarily from an onsite construction trailer and regularly move between the trailer, the building under construction, and the surrounding site. Some Saturdays will be required; however, the schedule is flexed so that if you work on a Saturday, you can take another weekday, such as Monday, off. The environment includes active construction conditions with heavy equipment, evolving site conditions, and adherence to strict safety standards. The role relies heavily on technology, including Microsoft Office, construction scheduling software, and potentially Procore or similar platforms. The organization offers two weeks of PTO accrued over time, ten observed holidays after the first 30 days, and a company phone.
