LIBRARY STUDENT ASSISTANT

Division: Support Services Department: Library Experience: Entry-level

Start Date: 8/25/2025

Assist with circulation desk operations, customer service, and general library maintenance tasks. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining experience in a library setting with no prior experience required.

Responsibilities and Career Competencies:

  1. Provide high-quality customer service to meet patron's needs - C, P, TW, CTR
  2. Check in/out library materials - P, CSD, T
  3. Ensure the integrity, privacy, and confidentiality of patron records and transactions - P, CT
  4. Answer the phone and relay questions to appropriate staff when necessary - C, TW
  5. Assist library users with basic reference, resource, and technology questions - C, T, CT
  6. Help patrons locate items through familiarity with the library layout - C, P, TW
  7. Explain library policies such as reserves, printing, and computer use - C, P, CT
  8. Provide basic technology support including Canvas, email, and office software - T, C, CT
  9. Assist with copiers, printers, and library equipment - T, P
  10. Answer library-related and campus-wide directional/informational questions - C, TW, P
  11. Shelve and shift materials accurately - CSD, CT, P
  12. Clean shelves and maintain assigned areas - P, TW
  13. Conduct shelf reading for collection inventory - CT, P, CSD
  14. Perform additional tasks as assigned - TW, P, CSD

Physical Demands: Keyboarding, reaching/handling, stooping/kneeling, crouching/crawling, pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs., lifting/carrying up to 30 lbs., climbing, balancing.

Additional Notes: This role is for students interested in library environments. Training and meetings are required. Must adhere to library policies and be punctual, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions.
