Skills Trainers (3 open positions)

Skills Trainers are responsible for assisting students throughout the day under the direction and support of the Project LIFE Instructor.ย  The primary role of this position is to provide vocational training to interns in the community job site setting. Additional responsibilities include providing support during classroom instruction and independent living activities.ย  This position will require a strong ability to communicate effectively with a variety of persons both in and out of the school environment.ย  Willingness to learn a variety of entry level job skills in collaboration with community business partners is a large part of this position.

The Project LIFE Skills Trainer is expected to:

  • Utilize effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Maintain regular communication with teacher, students, co-workers and business partners.
  • Participate in professional development activities as scheduled.
  • Instruct and assess student learning of job skills in the work environment at a ratio of no more than 1:5.
  • Utilize a weekly Job Skill Assessment Report to assess student learning.
  • Possess basic computer skills to include accessing materials in an online resource platform, adding data and text to excel spreadsheets; utilize district share folders to store information related to student progress, develop written and pictorial task lists, etc.
  • Engage in problem-solving concerns with and for student progress while meeting the expectations of job site management.
  • Provide supervision of students as assigned.
  • Follow guidelines for helping to implement IEP goals as provided by the teacher.
  • Be a positive role model and advocate in all settings.
  • Maintain appropriate grooming and business casual attire.
  • Possess an understanding of how to support learning for teens and young adults with a variety of disabilities.
  • Responsible for developing and providing accommodations in the workplace.
  • Assisting with the learning of independent living skills.
  • Assist teacher with other duties as assigned.
