Job description

Furniture Service Technician

Purpose at Ashley:
The Product Technician (Furniture Repair Technician) role is primarily responsible for the repair of case goods, leather, and upholstery furniture. You will be completing minor furniture repairs on all types of product damage, including handling or damage that may occur with furniture purchased in customers' homes. It is critical to have a customer centric mindset as your service is direct to the customer and our goal is to always give our customers a world class experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Repairs with little guidance on all product types.
  • Completes all repair types of entry level with additional skills requirements.
  • Performs minor repair on top of surface of case pieces and tables.
  • Performs solid color paper/side refinishes.
  • Performs small corner damages that requires rebuild.
  • Has general understanding of spray booth set up and use.
  • Performs advance replacement part repairs.
  • Communicates any maintenance of tools, parts and hardware needed as well as keeping repair area/shop clean.
  • Helps to inspect damaged product and conveys if it can be repaired to like new conditions.
  • Works with warehouse personnel on techniques of minor touch up on products during the inspection process.
  • Documents and follows through on reoccurring product damages.
  • Assists other technicians.
  • Accurately reports situations that occur when repairs can not be completed.
  • Must be able to assess damages to determine the most efficient way to repair them.
  • Identifies damage, loss or surplus of goods and materials stored in the warehouse.
  • Demonstrate the Company's Core and Growth Values in the performance of all job functions.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Maintains proper safety usage of all products that are used within the department.
  • Inspect of all assembled products in the run lane for delivery and assess if products can be repaired or must be replaced.
  • Restore product to like-new conditions using proven techniques, including refinishing, re-upholstery, painting, etc.
  • Repair damaged stock, wood, fabric, leather, and metal furniture using approved methods.
  • Understand and follow all safe work practices and rules, including WHMIS.
  • Answer guests' questions during in-home repairs.
  • Document and complete service reports and paperwork, including inventory control information.
  • Completion of electronic paperwork within our software platform
  • Communicate any issues (mechanical or otherwise) on the service vehicles.
  • Attend training on furniture repair topics.
  • Inspect and validate the repair parts.
  • Understand, follow, and ensure compliance with all safe work practices and rules.
  • Assure compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the company's values in all aspects of their work performance.
  • Participate in our National Certification program.

QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE -
• Previous repair, set up and/or warehouse experience.
• Good computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to learn inhouse computer programs.
• Good verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION
• High School diploma with two years of practical work experience in furniture repair, including upholstery, leather repairs, and wood refinishing.
• Combination of education and experience will be considered.
CORE COMPETENCIES
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present clean, organized, and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience.
• Good physical condition with stamina to lift at least 50 - 100 pounds.
• Able to conduct physical work in warm and cold conditions.
• Operates various equipment and tools
WORK PARAMETERS
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. • Driver's License Required.
• A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
• Some exposure to solvents.
• Ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
