Entry Level Finance Advisor information

What is the best entry-level finance job?

An entry-level finance advisor typically starts in roles such as financial analyst, junior financial planner, or client service associate, which involve analyzing financial data, assisting clients, and supporting financial strategies. These positions often require strong communication skills, basic knowledge of financial software, and relevant certifications like the Series 7 or Series 66 for advising roles.

What does an Entry Level Finance Advisor do?

An Entry Level Finance Advisor assists clients with their personal financial planning, such as budgeting, saving, investing, and insurance needs. They typically work under the supervision of more experienced advisors, helping clients understand their financial options and recommending strategies to achieve their financial goals. Their duties often include analyzing financial information, preparing financial reports, and educating clients about various financial products and services. Entry level advisors also help clients develop and stick to a financial plan while gaining experience for future advancement in the field.

How do I get into finance with no experience?

Entry level finance advisors often start by gaining relevant knowledge through online courses or certifications such as the Series 7 or Series 66 exams. Internships, volunteering, or entry-level positions in related fields can provide practical experience and help build industry connections.

What is the difference between Entry Level Finance Advisor vs Financial Analyst?

The choice depends on whether you prefer direct client engagement or analytical research within the finance industry.

Can financial advisors make $500,000 a year?

Entry level finance advisors typically do not earn $500,000 annually, as high earnings usually require extensive experience, a strong client base, and often involve commissions or bonuses. Most financial advisors reach higher income levels after several years in the field, with top earners in the industry sometimes surpassing that amount through a combination of assets under management and performance-based incentives.

How to become an entry-level financial advisor?

To become an entry-level financial advisor, candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Obtaining relevant licenses such as the Series 7 and Series 63, which are administered by FINRA, is also required, along with developing strong communication and analytical skills. Gaining internship experience can improve job prospects in this competitive field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Finance Advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Finance Advisor, you need a solid understanding of financial principles, analytical skills, and typically a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with financial planning software, CRM systems, and relevant certifications such as FINRA Series 7 or 66 can be advantageous. Strong interpersonal communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills help build trust and rapport with clients. These abilities are essential for providing sound financial advice, fostering client relationships, and supporting business growth in a competitive industry.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level finance advisors during their first year, and how can they overcome them?

Entry level finance advisors often face challenges such as building a client base, understanding complex financial products, and gaining clients' trust. During the first year, it's common to spend significant time networking, learning compliance regulations, and shadowing senior advisors. Overcoming these challenges involves proactively seeking mentorship, regularly participating in training sessions, and developing strong communication and interpersonal skills. Embracing a learning mindset and leveraging support from your team can help accelerate your growth and boost your confidence in client interactions.

How do you get a job in finance with no experience?

Entry-level finance advisor roles often require strong analytical skills, basic financial knowledge, and good communication. Candidates can gain relevant experience through internships, certifications like the Series 7 or 63, or by developing skills in financial software and tools. Networking and demonstrating a willingness to learn can also improve job prospects without prior experience.

Is 200,000 enough to work with a financial advisor?

For an Entry Level Finance Advisor, a $200,000 investment can be sufficient to start working with a financial advisor, depending on the advisor's fee structure and the complexity of your financial goals. Many advisors require a minimum investment or charge a percentage of assets under management, so the amount needed varies based on their policies and services offered.

Job description

Are you ready to start building a financial practice—without needing prior experience?

Today’s technology—powered by AI—handles much of the research, prospecting, and administrative work that used to slow new advisors down. That means you can focus on what truly drives success from day one: building relationships, growing your confidence, and helping clients achieve meaningful financial outcomes.

At Principal, we specialize in developing new advisors and helping them succeed in the business market. You’ll gain access to innovative solutions for small and mid-sized businesses across retirement, benefits, and asset management—all while learning how to apply them in real-world situations. In this role, you’ll leverage Principal’s platform and AI‑enabled tools to prospect more effectively and uncover opportunities within the business community.

What You’ll Do:

  • Use AI‑powered prospecting tools to identify businesses that may benefit from your outreach—eliminating the guesswork of where to start
  • Begin building and growing your own client base within the small and mid-sized business market
  • Learn to use advanced technology to prepare for meetings, uncover insights, and confidently engage with clients
  • Accelerate your development through hands-on training, mentorship from experienced leaders, and AI‑driven coaching
Compensation:

$76,000 at plan earnings

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with experienced advisors and leadership to strengthen your expertise and provide exceptional client experiences
  • Utilize digital tools and data insights to prepare for client meetings and deliver personalized financial guidance
  • Analyze client financial information to help develop customized strategies aligned with their goals
  • Provide exceptional service and ongoing support while building trust and establishing yourself as a valued financial resource
  • Complete a structured training program focused on financial planning, business development, and client relationship management
  • Identify and connect with prospective clients using AI-powered technology, networking, and community engagement
  • Build and grow a client base by developing relationships, networking, and connecting with prospective clients

Qualifications:
  • Experience in sales, customer service, account management, recruiting, business development, retail leadership, or other relationship-driven roles is preferred
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Ability to obtain FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 registrations (sponsorship provided)
  • Interest in financial planning, wealth management, and helping clients achieve long-term financial success
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and develop professional relationships
