Job description

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to join our Commercial Division in North Port, FL. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level construction professional to gain hands-on experience in community-focused commercial projects, including schools, fire stations, municipal buildings, and other public facilities.

The Field Engineer will work closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager to learn the fundamentals of project coordination, layout, and field management. This role provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in project management or field supervision.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Superintendent and Foreman with layout, measurement, and field engineering tasks.

  • Support daily project operations, including scheduling updates, document tracking, and field communication.

  • Help prepare and process Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals.

  • Maintain As-Built drawings, progress logs, and photo documentation.

  • Participate in site inspections, safety meetings, and quality control reviews.

  • Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate material deliveries and installation tracking.

  • Gain exposure to estimating, scheduling, and project documentation systems.


Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply).

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; exposure to scheduling or project management software a plus.

  • Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and grow within a collaborative construction environment.
