Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pattern Maker to join our team in the marine industry. This role is responsible for designing and developing precise patterns for custom and production boat covers, using a combination of hands-on templating, 3D modeling, and CAD tools. The ideal candidate will have experience in patterning for fabric applications, a strong spatial understanding, and an eye for fit, function, and durability in marine environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create accurate and detailed patterns for boat covers based on boat measurements, customer requirements, and design specifications.

  • Utilize templating techniques (manual and digital) to capture boat geometry.

  • Work with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, or specialized patterning software) to digitize and refine patterns.

  • Collaborate with the engineering, sewing, and production teams to ensure patterns are practical for fabrication and assembly.

  • Adjust and revise patterns based on fit trials, customer feedback, or design changes.

  • Maintain an organized archive of pattern files and documentation.

  • Ensure all designs meet quality, durability, and performance standards required in marine environments.

  • Stay informed about new materials, tools, and techniques applicable to marine fabrication.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in pattern making, preferably in the marine, upholstery, or technical textiles industries.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and/or 3D modeling tools used in pattern development.

  • Ability to read technical drawings and translate measurements into functional patterns.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.

  • Comfortable working on boats and in outdoor/marine environments as needed.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with boat cover or bimini top design and fabrication.

  • Knowledge of marine-grade materials and construction methods.

  • Familiarity with CNC cutting processes and equipment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in shop and field environments, climb on boats, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
