Job Title: Electrical Engineer I

Position Summary: The Electrical Engineer I performs work under the guidance of senior electrical engineers to create and document electrical designs for projects based on supplied project information. This work is completed utilizing acquired electrical engineering knowledge, AutoCAD Electric and other engineering and business support software.


Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8am- 4:30pm


Essential Functions. Other duties may be assigned.

CAD/3D Drafting/Support Software

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, technical drawings, and schematics competently.
  • Can create electrical design drawings using AutoCAD Electric.
  • With guidance from senior electrical engineers, able to work from project specifications, reference documents to update and/or create new electrical power and control design documents.
  • Assists electrical engineers in performing load and other electrical calculations for current and new designs.
  • Can update instrumentation and electrical and control portions of a P&ID drawings with some guidance.
  • Able to program PLC’s and HMI’s and can set up most PID loop designs with some assistance from a senior electrical engineer.
  • Knowledgeable of MS Office and similar business-related software and perform basic functions.
  • Able to do some research in Epicor on BOM’s, parts and other product related items, and with assistance can manage BOM’s and project schedules. Problem Solving/Troubleshooting
  • Able to work with fellow engineers, designers, and drafters to assist with resolving a design challenge.
  • Can perform basic electrical trouble shooting and problem solving with limited oversight.

Teamwork/Collaboration

  • Interfaces with engineering staff, manufacturing staff, and operations staff in a productive manner to gain needed information to properly perform electrical design work.
  • Participates in engineering design meetings to learn and grow experience of design methods and processes.
  • Works closely with fellow engineers, designers, and drafters to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Assists with guiding entry level electrical designers and CAD drafters in the performance of their work.

  • Punctual. Maintains regular and consistent job attendance.
  • Interfaces well with both internal and external customers.
  • Has advanced knowledge of the National Electric Code, IEEE standards, MSHA, and other applicable standards, and uses this knowledge to teach and grow members of the electrical team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/electrical technology, or an associate’s degree in electrical technology with 1-3 years of experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, electrical drawings and technical specifications, can understand basic electrical circuit diagrams, schematics, electrical blueprints and drawings.
  • Can utilize reference tables to determine the definition of basic electrical symbols and design callouts.
  • Can read, and understand production reports related to quality, and quantity.
  • Must be able to write NCR’s and comply with safety rules. Must be able to establish productive and effective communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.
  • College level technical math.
  • Engineering In Training Certification
  • Power Distribution (power and control) experienced is preferred
  • Manufacturing Background is preferred
  • Must comply with and follow all IE standards, programs, policies, and procedures as they apply to this position, reports any unsafe condition immediately.
  • Must operate and perform job duties in a safe manner including operation of machinery and moving equipment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Schedule: Must be able to work a 40-hour work week and additional time as required.
