Job description

JOB PURPOSE 

The primary purpose of this position is to receive Return Authorizations (RAs), perform inspections, testing, and repairs as necessary while maintaining and logging all associated information in the appropriate systems. This role ensures adherence to quality standards and manages raw material inventory levels while performing repairs. Repairs can include sewing and gluing on a variety of Mustang SKUs. 

STRUCTURE 

The Entry-Level Sewing Machine Operator reports to the Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Manager and collaborates with Quality Control Inspectors and Production Planners. They may receive guidance from more experienced operators. 

RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Maintaining paperwork and testing records. 

  • Operating industrial sewing machines (Lock-Stitch, Chain-Stitch, and/or Cycle Shift) or other machinery (manual or programmable) to assemble garments according to the appropriate methods and techniques for each product. 

  • Reverse engineering new products. 

  • Ensuring proper operation of sewing machines by cleaning, changing needles, detecting bobbin-winding problems, and testing the machine. 

  • Maintaining a clean and safe immediate workspace. Following all Safety Regulations and reporting all hazards, injuries, and accidents to the supervisor immediately. 

  • Running handheld fabric shears for cutting patches or templates. 

  • Receiving RAs, performing inspections, testing, and necessary repairs. 

  • Logging all associated information in the appropriate systems. 

  • Managing raw material inventory levels while performing repairs. 

  • Conducting basic maintenance and troubleshooting of sewing machines to ensure optimal functionality. 

  • Collaborating with team members to meet production targets and quality standards. 

  • Assisting in training new sewing machine operators or apprentices as needed.

Orientation Period: 
During the initial six-month orientation period, the Entry-Level Sewing Machine Operator will: 

Month 1-2: Introduction and Basic Training 

  • Week 1: Receive an overview of company policies, safety protocols, and procedures. 

  • Week 2-4: Undergo hands-on training with experienced operators to learn the basic operations of sewing machines. 

  • End of Month 1: Begin supervised sewing tasks on simpler projects to build confidence and basic skills. 

  • Month 2: Continue practicing basic sewing operations under supervision, focusing on accuracy and efficiency. 

Month 3-4: Skill Development 

  • Month 3: Start working on more complex sewing tasks, with increased focus on quality standards and meeting production targets. 

  • Month 4: Participate in regular feedback sessions with supervisors to identify areas of improvement and receive guidance. 

Month 5-6: Independent Work and Assessment 

  • Month 5: Begin working more independently, with supervisors providing less direct oversight but remaining available for assistance. 

  • Month 6: Undergo an evaluation to assess proficiency in operating sewing machines, understanding of fabric types, and adherence to safety protocols. 

  • End of Month 6: Receive feedback on overall performance and readiness for continued responsibilities or potential promotion to Intermediate Sewing Machine Operator.

To be considered for promotion to Intermediate Sewing Machine Operator, the Entry-Level Sewing Machine Operator should:

  • Demonstrate consistent proficiency in operating basic sewing machines and performing garment sewing operations efficiently. 

  • Show capability in troubleshooting minor sewing machine issues and performing basic maintenance tasks.

  • Basic knowledge of sewing and gluing processes necessary to repair various products. 

  • Basic knowledge of inspection and testing of products before, during, and after repairs as required by the product.

  • Good communication skills and command of English (verbal and written).
