Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join our AECOM Transportation Department in either our Arlington or Glen Allen, VA office. AECOM is searching for candidates that can be creative and impactful on a wide range of transportation projects. Entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM's Graduate Development Program (GDP), a program designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

As an Entry-Level Structural Engineer, you will work with multi-discipline project teams in developing a range of engineering solutions from initial concepts to detailed design development and through construction. This is a diverse role that will involve your contributions and insight into the effective delivery of the department's current and future portfolio of projects.
This role is expected to start Summer 2027.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Design of new bridges
  • Design for bridge rehabilitation projects
  • Development of bridge maintenance and repair plans
  • Performing load ratings for bridges
  • Design of transit structures
  • Bridge and tunnel inspection and evaluation
  • Various tunnel engineering support services
  • Preparation of construction plans and specifications
  • Preparation of cost estimates and schedules

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration as an E.I.T.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills
  • Flexibility to work on a variety of projects, including highways, bridges and tunnels.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work alternate schedules (nights, weekends and holidays) and short-notice work assignments depending on project needs
  • Must be detail oriented and demonstrate good problem solving ability.
  • Good interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in layman's terms.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience with Internships.
  • Software Experience: AutoCad, Microstation, MS Office and Structural Analysis Software experience.
