Job description

Kenyon College is seeking applications for a Data Analytics Fellow in the Advancement division. This is an entry-level, two-year, full-time position that is eligible for benefits. It is designed as a postbaccalaureate position geared toward recent college graduates who want to gain experience and benefit from strong technical and professional mentorship. This is a hybrid position requiring three days on premises per week.

About the Position: Do Work that Matters

The Data Analytics Fellow for Advancement reports to the Director of Advancement Systems and will collaborate extensively with other members of the Advancement division. The Data Analytics Fellow’s primary focus is enhancing data comprehension, visibility, and usefulness through modeling, analyzing and presenting results to support strong decisions.

Responsibilities

Data modeling and presentation

  • Create and develop data models to identify trends, priorities and potential volunteers and donors. Collaborate with colleagues to identify key questions and understand issues and requirements related to engagement and philanthropy. Iterate on model development in conjunction with stakeholders, then test and fine-tune results.
  • Present results in multiple formats to assist in data-driven decisions and communication.
  • Research and define best practices for data tidying, modeling, and presentation of results, in conjunction with AIS colleagues.
  • Develop processes to operationalize approved data models to be usable at scale and frequency.
  • Develop new solutions to improve Advancement’s understanding of data through reports and analytics; improve efficiency and enhance capabilities of the division through good data handling and communication practices.
  • Use internal tools or approved external tools, including AI, in a manner consistent with Kenyon’s data privacy and confidentiality expectations.

Slate Reporting

  • Use Slate (the Advancement division’s CRM) to create and maintain queries, reports, and forms for the Advancement division and other offices as appropriate.
  • Extract and prepare data for multiple uses, including industry-wide surveys, in a reliable, flexible, and reusable way.

User Support and Training

  • Assist colleagues in providing Slate technical support for 45+ users.
  • Assist in training Advancement staff in the use of data models, results, Slate and other systems.
  • Assist with determining educational needs of new and veteran staff members, including scheduling trainings or individual sessions to meet their needs.
  • Troubleshoot problems related to all Advancement data and systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technical skills paired with the ability to understand the divisions’ needs, develop high quality solutions, and communicate those solutions to colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing. Willingness to communicate proactively and to respond promptly to communication from others, as appropriate.
  • Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence, maintain confidentiality, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

We value both education and experience. A successful candidate should be comfortable with data and technology, be curious, and love to learn. These are the minimum requirements for a successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Experience developing data models, analyzing and interpreting results and presenting results to end users.
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, using AI as a tool to analyze data.

Preferred Qualifications

These are preferred qualifications for a successful candidate:

  • College level courses or equivalent experience in data modeling and analysis and programming.
  • Data handling knowledge: structures, tidying, transforming, visualizing, modeling, and communicating. SQL programming and/or scripting languages such as Python or R are preferred. Experience with Power BI is a plus.
