Education: Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field


Position Summary

The CAD Technician I is an entry-level drafter responsible for producing foundational 2D basemaps and plan sheets that support gas distribution and transmission projects. This role focuses on learning company drafting standards, contributing to drawing packages, and supporting more senior designers and engineers in delivering accurate and compliant project documentation.

This position is ideal for candidates with basic AutoCAD skills who are looking to grow within the utility drafting and design field.


  • Job Requirements:

    Education:

    • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or equivalent related field.

    Experience:

    • 2+ years preferred of drafting experience, preferably in gas utility field

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Proficient with AutoCAD 2D basics.
    • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings, schematics and maps.
    • Familiarity with GIS, GIS data formats (dwg, shp) and coordinate systems.
    • Familiarity with other CAD software such as Civil 3D or Inventor is a plus but not required.

    Major Job Responsibilities:

    • Create basemaps from GIS exports, ariel imagery, survey data, etc. (provided data) for distribution projects.
    • Create foundational drawing sets for distribution.
    • Apply drafting standards such as symbols, line types, text styles and annotations to basemap packages for internal review.
    • Collaborate with engineers and senior CAD technicians/designers to understand scope, resolve issues and ensure accurate basemap representation.
    • Assist in redline process to ensure accuracy and compliance with DOT standards and requirements.
    • Support development and implementation of CAD standards, drafting tools, and best practices across the department.
    • Perform additional duties and assignments as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
