Instructor of Computer Information Technology

This is a full-time, academic year, term contract in Computer Information Technology. The position reports to the Dean of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach 30 hours (TLE) per academic year in Computer Information Technology, including networking, security, and operating systems, with a focus on CCNA certification preparation. The courses may be delivered using a variety of methods including traditional, online, hybrid and/or two/three-way technology.

ย  ย  ย Serve as the Computer Information Technology Program Coordinator.

ย  ย  ย Manage and maintain the advisory committee for the program.

ย  ย  ย Maintain CIT - Networking programmatic accreditation.

ย  ย  ย Promote and assist with DSCC's eSports team.

ย  ย  ย Initial assignment may be one or two of DSCC's teaching locations, but the official work station assignment may changeย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย each semester dependent on demand.

ย  ย  ย  Ability to teach and manage multiple courses in an individualized setting.

ย  ย  ย  Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional, returning adults.

ย  ย  ย  ย Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCC's program viable and competitive.

ย  ย  ย  ย Flexibility to teach evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses as needed (requires the use of personal vehicle).

ย  ย  ย  ย Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research- based learning strategiesย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  including service-learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across theย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  curriculum.

ย  ย  ย  ย Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs, online, Zoom, and/or remote location.

ย  ย  ย  ย Develop cooperative education opportunities for students that provide capstone experiences for the program.

ย  ย  ย  ย Revise and develop curriculum and select course instructional materials (which may include electronic materials, openย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  educational resources, traditional textbooks, etc.) in cooperation with colleagues. Provide course materials and information in a formatย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  that is accessible for all students.

ย  ย  ย  ย Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes.

ย  ย  ย  ย Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans,ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.

ย  ย  ย  ย Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or nationalย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  organization related to your teaching at DSCC.

ย  ย  ย  ย Assist with the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors.

ย  ย  ย  ย Assist in the preparation of course semester/term schedules based on community needs and data trends.

ย  ย  ย  ย Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or nationalย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  organization related to teaching assignment at DSCC.

ย  ย  ย  ย Participate in student activities such as sponsoring a student club/organization and attending campus events.

ย  ย  ย  ย Advise students, maintain regular office hours, and participate in college life and committee work of the College. Be trainedย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  and certified as a Master Advisor.

ย  ย  ย  ย Willingness to acquire software certifications as needed.

ย  ย  ย  ย Assist in grant writing and/or grant management.

ย  ย  ย  ย Willingness to teach in correctional facilities (prisons/jails).

ย  ย  ย  ย  Assist with STEM events.

ย  ย  ย  ย  Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ย  ย  ย  ย  Sedentary: Desk work; travel will be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normalย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย movement. Must be able to loft 50 lbs. Minimal Hazard/Exposure:

ย  ย  ย  ย  Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means. Normally,ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  responses are expected in no more than 72 hours.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Proficient in Microsoft Office.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Ability to teach and evaluate student performance.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Ability to maintain required records.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Ability to work with staff and colleagues in department and college committees and related activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

ย  ย  ย  ย  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field andย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย documented knowledge/skill sets gained through work experience and/or certifications.

ย  ย  ย  ย  Teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ย  ย  ย  ย  Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in a field closely related to Information Technology or

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Computer Science.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Experience teaching in an online environment.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Community college experience.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Information Technology Security Certification.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Community college experience.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Work experience as an IT system administrator.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Salary range: $45,227-$55,353
