About the role

Muon Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Early Career Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge electrical hardware for our next-generation spacecraft. You will work closely with experienced engineers across various disciplines to bring innovative satellite systems to life. 

This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office three days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including areas such as flight computers, power distribution, guidance and navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems.
  • Participate in schematic capture and PCB layout with the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in the bring-up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware.
  • Collaborate with software engineers on the integration and testing of hardware and software components.
  • Build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks.
  • Work cross-functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams to ensure successful integration and manufacturability of hardware.
  • Contribute to the creation of design documentation, test procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Qualifications
  • Prefer, but don't require B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably with exposure to electronic systems (relevant internships and academic projects will be considered).
  • Familiarity with basic electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
  • Exposure to schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad).
  • Understanding of microcontroller basics and common communication interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Experience with embedded systems or basic embedded programming concepts.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing considerations (e.g., vibration, thermal, EMI).
  • Exposure to scripting languages like Python for test automation or data analysis.
  • Participation in relevant student projects or clubs (e.g., robotics, aerospace).
Salary

The salary range for this role is $144,000 - $164,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
