About the Role

Under strict supervision, the R&M Electrical Technician I performs repairs, preventative maintenance, calibration, and inspections on downhole electronic tools and components used in Sperry Drilling operations. This includes equipment associated with Directional Drilling, Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS), and MWD/LWD sensors.

The technician plays a key role in ensuring equipment availability, tool reliability, and safe operation by following standardized work processes, troubleshooting electrical systems, and maintaining detailed documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct repair, testing, calibration, and preventative maintenance on downhole tool electronics and associated drilling systems.
  • Assist with assembly and disassembly of MWD/LWD, RSS, and directional drilling tools according to specifications.
  • Perform electronic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and component replacement under supervision.
  • Follow all HSE, quality, and reliability procedures to ensure safe and compliant work practices.
  • Maintain accurate service records, calibration logs, and repair documentation.
  • Support senior technicians and engineers in tool evaluations, failure analysis, and improvement initiatives.
  • Operate computer-based testing systems, diagnostic software, and electronic measurement tools.
  • Contribute to overall shop efficiency, housekeeping, and asset readiness for field deployment.
Qualifications
  • Technical school certificate in electronics, electrical technology, instrumentation, or related field OR equivalent experience required.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Mechanical and/or electronics aptitude, including ability to work with small components and precision tools.
  • Basic computer proficiency (diagnostic software, data entry, equipment interfaces).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and quality workmanship.
