Job description

We are looking for a Compensation & Benefits Specialist to support payroll and employee benefits administration for a workforce of approximately 170 employees in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This Contract position is fully onsite and works a standard Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule. The person in this role will help ensure accurate biweekly payroll processing, effective benefits coordination, and responsive support for compensation and leave-related matters across multiple shifts and employee groups.
Responsibilities:
• Manage end-to-end biweekly payroll activities for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accurate processing for a workforce of about 170 team members.
• Review payroll data for completeness and correctness, including shift differentials, while partnering with supervisors who maintain employee timecards.
• Administer employee benefit programs and serve as a point of contact for questions related to medical, dental, retirement, and other benefit offerings.
• Coordinate 401(k) contribution approvals and related submissions with the designated retirement plan provider.
• Support benefits enrollment, changes, and ongoing reconciliation activities with external vendors, including dental plan administration.
• Assist with leave administration matters, including FMLA tracking, documentation, and communication with employees and managers.
• Maintain payroll and benefits records in Paylocity and help ensure data accuracy, compliance, and timely updates.
• Respond to employee and management inquiries regarding pay, deductions, benefit participation, and compensation-related issues.
• Contribute to special payroll or benefits projects and support process improvements as needed within the HR and payroll function.• Experience handling payroll and benefits administration in a detail-oriented HR, payroll, or compensation environment.
• Working knowledge of Paylocity or a similar HRIS/payroll platform used for payroll and benefits processing.
• Familiarity with benefit functions such as enrollments, deductions, vendor coordination, and employee support.
• Understanding of compensation and benefits practices, including shift differential pay and payroll processing for mixed employee groups.
• Experience supporting FMLA or other leave administration processes with strong attention to confidentiality and compliance.
• Ability to work onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on a permanent 40-hour weekly schedule.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, maintain accurate records, and resolve issues efficiently.
