Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHBโ€™s Boston, MA or Watertown, MA office is looking for an Entry-Level Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning & Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, healthcare, federal land and aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects, particularly in urban areas
  • Perform various analyses and studies including:
    • Multimodal transportation and traffic impact studies
    • Safety studies and data analysis
    • Active transportation assessments
    • Transportation planning and travel demand analyses
    • Intersection and roadway level of service analyses
    • Transit service capacity analysis
  • Research and interpret transportation data, zoning and land use ordinances, community statistics, and demographics
  • Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
  • Perform traffic and parking data collection and tabulation
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvements
  • Produce roadway, intersection, and multimodal street designs at a conceptual (preliminary engineering) level

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering 
  • 0-1 years of professional transportation planning, engineering, or consulting experience
  • EIT preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD a plus
  • Experience with Synchro, Vissim, and/or HCS a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS a plus

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $80,000-83,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
