Job description

The Oncology Accreditation and Cancer Registry Coordinator maintains the tumor registry database of cancer patient records according to American College of Surgeons (ACOS) and MHG standards, policies, and procedures.

Education:

  • High School or GED
  • Associate's Degree
  • With 60 college course credit hours and two (2) semesters of Anatomy & Physiology, AND successful completion of a 160-hour clinical practicum under a CTR's supervision
  • Cancer Registry Management (CRM) or Cancer Information Management (CIM) from an NCRA-accredited program

Experience:

  • 2
  • In the cancer registry field

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Functions as manager of cancer registry department and of accreditation
    • Coordinates staffing and scheduling for cancer registry employees
    • Provides employee tracking and job performance evaluation
    • Completion of cancer registry quality controls
    • Coordination of all Cancer Committee activity
    • Coordination of all Commission on Cancer Accreditation requirements
  • Oversees maintenance of registry database according to ACOS and MHG standards, policies, and procedures
    • Identifies all cases of malignant disease from hospital departments, clinics, physician offices, and documents in suspense file
    • Accurately completes abstract data , with delay no longer than 6 months from initial diagnosis
    • Performs cancer registry data entry, documenting tumor-related information
    • Obtains follow-up data systematically with a follow-up rate of 90% maintained
  • Communicates accurate and appropriate information to care providers and committees
    • Topography and morphology of registered tumor cases are appropriately coded and entered in the database
    • Compiles data for reporting and keeps an accurate log of data requests
    • Submits data to the National Cancer Data Base and the State Central Registry as noted in the annual report
    • Participates in the publication of the annual report
  • Participates as a member of the care team to achieve business goals, clinical/quality outcomes and customer satisfaction
    • Records the minutes and activities of the Tumor Conference
    • Serves as a member and attends the Cancer Committee and other committees as requested
    • Successful completion of probation and annual skills/competency requirements
    • Regular and timely attendance is required for this position
    • Performance of duties will be in compliance with all laws and regulations governing health care organizations
    • Provides assistance to team members as requested or necessary
    • Communicates operational issues clearly and effectively within the team and outside the team as appropriate
    • Safeguards confidential information
    • Participates in performance improvement activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
    • Contributes to the daily operations of the department by performing other roles as needed
    • Completes special duties/projects as assigned or needed
