Under general supervision, this position performs specialized technical inspection of construction projects and installations in new, existing, and remodeled structures in the following areas of trade certification: plumbing, mechanical, electrical, structural, and plans examination to determine compliance with the current codes and standards adopted by the Town.

Conducts inspections in the following areas of trade certification(s): plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural. Performs re-inspections to determine if trade deficiencies have been corrected. Explains and applies adopted building codes to assist contractors and the public during construction projects.
Investigates complaints of code violations and enforces corrective actions to resolve deficiencies. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate reports, logs, and records of all building inspections and actions taken to achieve compliance with Town of Parker regulations. Provides positive customer service to applicants, the public and other Town departments and governmental entities.
Participates in staff development activities, team meetings, and professional training to enhance skill and competence. Adheres to all Town and departmental values, policies, and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of relevant experience in construction or in building trades with work performed in conformance with standard codes.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history. Employees within the Building Inspector position series are eligible to participate in a self-initiated progression for promotional advancement through inspector levels. Below are the distinguishing characteristics of each level: Building Inspector I: This is an entry-level position within the Building Inspector position series.
This position is distinguished from the others within this series by the performance of limited and routine tasks and duties. The Inspector I is typically a training platform for employees having only limited or no directly related work experience. This level requires the following certification be obtained within one (1) year of hire: International Code Council (ICC) Certification in two (2) of the following areas of certification: building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, , or plans examination.
Building Inspector II: This is a mid-level position within the Building Inspector position series. This position is distinguished from the others within this series by experience, additional certifications, and the performance of the full range of tasks and duties. The Inspector II receives occasional instruction or assistance and is aware of the Divisional operating procedures and Town policies.
This level requires two (2) years of building inspection experience. This level requires the following certification: International Code Council (ICC) Certification in four (4) of the following areas of certification: building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, electrical, accessibility, , or plans examination. Building Inspector III: This is an upper-level position within the Building Inspector position series.
This position is distinguished from the others within this series by the years of experience, additional certifications, and the performance of the full range of tasks, duties, and special assignments. The Inspector III receives only limited instruction or assistance and is fully aware of the operating procedures and Divisional policies. This level requires four (4) years of building inspection experience.
This level requires the following certification: International Code Council (ICC) Certification in all six (6) of the following areas of certification: building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, electrical, accessibility, , and plans examination: Employment Standards The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge of and experience with the principles, practices, and techniques of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural codes. Knowledge of municipal building codes and enforcement of codes.
Knowledge of design and construction methods. Knowledge of possible defects and flaws in building construction and corrective measures. Skill to identify potential needs and problems with the ability to suggest workable solutions.
Skill in the provision of customer service. Skill in the use of computers, various software programs and other types of modern office equipment. Skill in verbal and written communication.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of building plans. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work with minimal supervision while in the field with the ability to follow specific directions.
Ability to negotiate effectively with builders, contractors, developers, and other members of the public. Ability to work with difficult customers with the ability to resolve conflict. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.

Tools & Equipment Requires use of general office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, and related software. Use of specialized tools or equipment may also be necessary, including but not limited to technical devices, mechanical tools, heavy equipment, machinery, public-safety-related items, or other industry-specific systems. If required by the position, the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle.
General and Sensory Requirements The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. Duties may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, both in person and over the phone, and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role.
Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision. Heavy Physical Demands This position requires sustained and demanding physical activity. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently and more than one hundred (100) pounds occasionally with assistance.
Environment Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in varied indoor and outdoor locations. The noise level is typically variable depending on activities or location.
This position frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Employees in this position may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, or airborne particles, work in proximity to moving mechanical parts or machinery, and handle potentially hazardous materials.
