Building Inspector Trainee - Mt. Pleasant, SC

The SAFEbuilt Training Program (STP) begins with an orientation surrounding the legal aspects of what building inspectors at SAFEbuilt do on a daily basis, starting at the front counter. At the completion of the orientation, the trainee's will be assigned a mentor or Field Training Inspector. Trainees will receive on the job training on residential inspections, balancing out field experience and self-study materials. The STP program is approximately 1 year in length covering 4 modules on residential inspections (Building, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical). At the end of the program the trainee will have attained an ICC Certified Combination Residential Inspector status and is prepared to work out of any SAFEbuilt office.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Strong desire to gain knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
  • Teachable in the interpretation of codes in the field and provision of code compliant solutions
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Entry Level
  • Construction or trade background preferred
  • Certificate or Degree in studies toward a Construction Management or construction trades is a plus
