We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Automation Specialist role. Our primary responsibility as a team is to ensure the local (SCV) corporate portfolio is operating at the highest levels of occupant comfort while maintaining critical environments without compromising efficiency. This role directly contributes to a sustainable, comfortable, and productive work environment for Apple employees. Our team works closely with a diverse group of partners including facilities managers, project managers, EH&S, and service providers.
We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly motivated building automation systems professional to join our team.
Description
The Facilities Operations Center (FOC) serves as the 24/7 central point of command for monitoring the health and performance of our portfolio-wide building automation systems. As a Building Automation Specialist on our Facilities Operations Center (FOC) team, you will be responsible for the real-time identification and triage of system alarms, dispatching service technicians, and escalating complex faults to the extended support teams to ensure seamless operation of our facilities. This critical role ensures operational uptime and contributes directly to maintaining a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for all Apple employees.
As our first line of defense, you will help take decisive action to resolve issues remotely using approved operator tools, and when unable to, create high-quality, actionable work tickets with clear documentation of steps already taken to ensure the correct engineering or field team can resolve the problem efficiently. You will also work collaboratively with the Facility Service Center (FSC), our BAS Engineers, maintenance technicians, project managers, and external vendors to resolve system issues promptly and maintain optimal building performance.
","responsibilities":"Monitor the real-time performance and health of all building automation systems (BAS) across the portfolio, identifying potential failures, assessing priority, and dispatching vendor support as needed for resolution as part of the overall BAS alarm response lifecycle.
You will oversee and respond to service requests by providing clear documentation of troubleshooting steps already taken and dispatch the correct engineering or field team who can resolve the problem efficiently.
Maintain operational discipline and data integrity across the 24/7 coverage for the FOC team by accurately documenting all system events, alarm responses, and issue resolutions in our ticketing systems and team pass-downs.
Create and distribute daily reports and support FOC procedures, such as equipment alarm reports, temporary system overrides or schedule adjustments, to support building monitoring oversight, along with events and maintenance activities.
Communicate clear and concise summaries of system status, ongoing incidents, and operational impacts to engineers and leadership.
Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with field technicians, service vendors, and Facilities Business Managers (FBMs).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a technical operations center, dispatch, or similar real-time monitoring environment.
Critical thinking skills with a proactive mindset for identifying opportunities to improve operational processes and workflows.
Ability to work on complex assignments requiring independent action, judgment, and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
A strong customer service mindset with the ability to handle service requests and escalations in a professional and positive manner.
Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A collaborative team player who can thrive in ambiguity and adapt quickly to changing situations.
Proven ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively in a fast-paced, incident-driven environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of a 24/7 operational team.

The ability to be flexible with your assigned shift is preferred for opportunities to move to one of the alternative shifts listed below.
4x10 Day Shift - 6:00AM - 4:30PM - Sunday-Wednesday
4x10 Swing Shift - 12:00PM - 10:30PM - Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday
4x10 Grave Shift - 9:00PM - 7:30AM - Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent years of demonstrated experience
3+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), or similar including prior experience and certifications with Building Automation Systems (BAS), such as ALC, Metasys, or Niagara.
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building automation principles, controls theory, mechanical, and electrical systems concepts.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams to resolve facilities escalations.
Proficiency with ticketing systems, computer-based tools, reviewing construction documents/specifications, and a demonstrated ability to learn new software platforms.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $42.64 and $63.96/hr, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
