We are looking for talented Marine Mechanics to maintain and repair all types of boat and marine engines and systems. We are a fast growing and large Mercury/MerCrusier outboard, sterndrive and inboard Service Center, as well as a Suzuki outboard dealer, located in North Kingstown RI. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of our customers boats, engines and mechanical systems. An excellent mechanic must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail. They must be able to work with specific marine equipment and tools as well as follow all safety precautions and management instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnosis and repair boat engines, systems or mechanical components according to requirements
  • Inspect outboards, inboards and sterndrive engines and, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Perform thorough maintenance on customer as well as yard owned machinery, equipment and systems
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to management and vessel users
  • Undertake other marine and boat related duties as assigned
  • Keep logs of work and report on issues

Skills
  • Proven experience as Mercury or Suzuki Certified Marine Mechanic. Entry level and/or non-certified marine mechanics are also considered. We will provide training.
  • Excellent knowledge of marine engines, electrical and other systems and their components
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.
  • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
  • Very good communication skills
  • A problem-solving ability
  • High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or Mercury University is a definite plus

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Technical school training preferred
  • 5 years' experience preferred
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Must carry own tools
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Basic boat handling skills preferred
  • Experience with both gas and diesel engines preferred
  • Any skills considered standard that a Technician (Mechanic) should possess
