Job description

James E Fulton & Sons, Inc

Class A CDL Dump Truck Driver

Location: Kalamazoo, MI (local work, home every night)

If you're a safety-first CDL driver who likes well-run jobsites, clean equipment, and a team that actually helps each other, you'll fit in here. This is a local driving role that keeps you moving, hauling materials, freight/scrap, and equipment, while working with a crew that takes pride in doing it right.

James E Fulton & Sons is a family-owned excavating and trucking contractor serving Southwest Michigan. We've built our reputation on quality work, outstanding service, and a committed team, and we've been doing it for decades. Around town, you'll recognize our yellow-and-white fleet, a legacy built on visibility, pride, and equipment that's kept clean and maintained.

As a Driver, you'll operate a dump truck and support hauling needs for our excavation and utility work. We're looking for "universal" drivers, people comfortable driving on the road and working in the dirt, who can handle routine paperwork and use basic tech (we use an app for timekeeping and daily workflow). You'll be an important part of keeping projects moving safely and efficiently, and there's room to grow (route driver more advanced hauling like lowboy/gravel train driver, with pay increasing as skills increase).

Responsibilities

  • Operate CDL truck(s) safely on local routes (no overnights)
  • Haul aggregate/materials, freight/scrap, and support jobsite trucking needs
  • Work confidently on active construction sites (backing, dumping, staging, spotting, etc.)
  • Load/unload and secure loads (chains/straps/tarping as applicable)
  • Keep the truck clean, inspected, and maintained (basic daily checks; report issues early)
  • Clean out dump boxes/beds and assist with jobsite support tasks as needed
  • Complete required logs/paperwork and communicate clearly with dispatch/foremen/crew
  • Follow all safety policies and applicable U.S. Department of Transportation requirements (including drug/alcohol testing rules for CDL roles)

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • 3 or more years of CDL driving experience preferred
  • Must have Double Endorsement and some experience in aggregate hauling
  • Current DOT medical card (or ability to obtain/maintain)
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screening and participate in random testing (CDL/DOT)
  • Safe driving habits and ability to meet insurability requirements (MVR review)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather and on active job sites
  • Physically able to handle job demands (climbing in/out of truck, securing loads, cleaning beds/boxes, lifting/moving typical jobsite items)
  • Able to use a smartphone/tablet app for timekeeping and basic job documentation
  • Able to read and communicate in English sufficiently for safety communication and required paperwork

Pay & Benefits

  • Full-time opportunity, W-2 Employment
  • Pay: $23 to $31 per hour, depending on experience/qualifications
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid holidays
  • Schedule:
  • Start 5-7 AM
  • Finish 3-7 PM (job-dependent)
  • No overnight travel
  • Voluntary weekends
