Job description

General Description This is an entry-level automotive maintenance position which involves the performance of routine work relative to automotive maintenance and repair. Employees of this class perform preventative maintenance duties on light equipment, and may assist in the repair of automotive equipment and vehicles. Duties are performed according to prescribed standards and procedures.

Incumbents may be assigned to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and nights. Related work is performed as required. CITY RESIDENCY PREFERRED Typical Work Activities Performs preventative maintenance duties such as changing oil, replacing filters, checking fluids and if necessary restoring them to appropriate levels, lubricating moving parts, checking tires, may replace burned out lights, may check and replace belts and hoses, may change wiper blades; May check and repair brakes; Cleans both the interior and exterior of vehicles; Re-fuel vehicles; May rebuild small engines and repairs equipment; Document vehicle information into a database; Operates a tow truck and perform road calls; May pickup or deliver automobiles and automotive parts to field personnel or vendor.

Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or possession of G.E.D., PLUS 1. One year of paid experience performing preventative maintenance; OR 2. Completion of minimum of five (5) Automotive Technology courses from a recognized college or university

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possession of a valid New York State Class D operator's license at time of application. Incumbent must maintain this licensure throughout employment in this title.

2. Obtain the Tow Truck (W) endorsement within three (3) months of employment.
