Obtain hands-on experience by volunteering or working at events, and consider earning certifications like the A1 or A2 from the Society of Broadcast Engineers to improve job prospects.

What does an entry level audio technician do?

An entry level audio technician assists with setting up, operating, and maintaining audio equipment for events, recordings, or broadcasts. Their responsibilities often include running cables, setting up microphones, troubleshooting equipment problems, and supporting senior audio engineers during sound checks and live productions. This role provides hands-on experience and is a common starting point for those interested in a career in audio engineering.

How can I work in music with no experience?

Entry level audio technicians can start by gaining basic knowledge of audio equipment and sound systems through online tutorials or community college courses. Volunteering at local events or assisting experienced technicians can provide hands-on experience and help build skills with tools like mixers and microphones. Certifications such as the OSHA safety certification or audio-specific training can improve job prospects without prior professional experience.

What jobs pay $400 an hour?

Entry level audio technicians typically do not earn $400 an hour; such high rates are usually associated with highly experienced professionals like top-tier audio engineers, studio producers, or specialized consultants. These roles often require advanced skills, certifications, and extensive industry experience, and they may work on high-profile projects or events. Most entry level positions pay significantly less, often hourly wages in the range of $15 to $30.
